So I started working on my Common App last night and ran into a handful of questions.

What do I list as Honors? Would this just be Honor Roll, AP Scholar, or National Honors Society inductee?

I have two internships and one job that are strictly involve my career path. Would it be wise to omit these from the body of my Common App and just elaborate on them on an attached resume?

Why does the Common App still list Math 2 and Math 2C as separate subject tests? How should I list my Math II score? Also, is there any way to send different standardized tests to different schools? (i.e. schools have different requirements and I may want to only send certain scores to some schools and other scores to others)

I believe attaching a resume could be a strength as long as the document is concise and truly demonstrates that the Common App does not do your experience any justice.

To idk11: Yes, those are things that you would put in the honors category.
To terp: Many people add resumes to give more depth to their activities list on the Common App. Colleges don’t really care… just make it short and sweet (less than 2 pages)
To apple: I would list it as Math Level 2 because 2C is the older version of the test.
To aplomb: Yes they are synonymous. And no, you can change it at any time.
To Hipeople: Can you list the thread, because I could not find it.

Can any of you try to help me as well? Thanks!

Math 2 and Math 2C are not the same. Math 2C is an older test and Math 2 is a newer (currently given) test. Math 2C is listed because some applicants may have taken that test back when it was being given. You should select the test that you took. Collegeboard will tell you which test you took when you login and check. (Chances are, you took the test within the last year and thus took Math 2, but you may have taken it a few years back.)

@ rte Yep! As long as you haven’t submitted the app, you can edit

Do any of you know what to do with a creative writing portfolio? The Arts supplement only wants dance, theater, music, and visual art, but I’ve heard of many people submitting creative writing.

hmm not sure really…it seems to me as though the arts supplements are for people applying to art schools/programs specifically, but I dont know.

For the Midyear and Final report, do we send those in at a later time from the rest of the common app? I’d assume so since we wouldn’t know our midyear and final reports if applying EA…

What do you put in for “Counselor’s Position”?

Mini-Rant:

This is kind of annoying, I put it “None” for my dad cause he didn’t even graduate High School and it’s asking me what Graduate Degree he received…WOOOW…

Wow. I started my common app and there are several questions that I have.

1) My parents did not go to college in America. Should I just leave that portion blank then or try to fill it out to the “best of my abilities”?

2) What the heck does Counselor’s Position mean? I would assume their position is … “counselor” but I might be totally mistaken … Please elaborate!

3) Do I have to self report every single ACT test score? Or can I just report my highest score?

4) Should I fill out the “race” part even though it is optional? I am Asian, just to clarify.

is the art supplement “common”? say if i ask my piano teacher to write me a rec (which it says to do), i can use this rec for other schools when i submit the art supplement too right?

also, under the activities section, it says list your activites and awards received…well i play the piano, and i’ve won quite a few of awards/honors…should i list all? or just a few and then attach more on the resume ?..

also under work experience, what if i had some informal employment…to cut to the chase, i’ve taught piano to little kids, but i’m not really employed by anyone…

both my parents got a bachelors and masters at the same college, but it only allows you to choose bachelors; then my parents moved to the US, and got another masters at another school…so basically 2 masters and 1 bachelor. there’s no way to indicate this on the application?
