The Real Truth

I got a 3.67 this semester in engineering at UC Berkeley. I’m applying to transfer to Columbia and a few other schools of comparable selectivity. I want the real truth: is this GPA so low that I have no chance at schools this hard to transfer to? Assuming everything else is stellar (4.0 in high school, ACT’s 34+, incredible EC’s, essays, etc.) I’m thinking now that these schools aren’t worth the money to even apply after such a low GPA. Please, any help is appreciated.

I guess my first question is why? UCB is an excellent engineering school and you have clearly adjusted to your course load in engineering pretty well since your GPA is respectable. Of course you have a chance but remember that these schools may not take very many transfer students if any and if you did not get in as a First year, what has changed to make you a more attractive candidate for even fewer spots?

@xraymancs You’re right, I didn’t apply as a first year though because I wanted to do engineering which those schools aren’t as hot for, now I want to do polysci/econ. Been involved in a lot of that type of stuff, but thinking a smaller schools would be a better fit. Also I’m URM if that makes a difference, idk though.

Well, it can’t hurt to apply but you just need realize that no matter how strong your application, when only a few percent get in, it is a long shot.
