I just got a letter of recommendation that my teacher wrote for me. While the letter is entirely positive, it's about half a a page long, and the teacher doesn't really rave about me in it. Should I be fine with a positive letter or do I need to see if I can get a better one? I'm not applying to any ivies, but my top choices are schools like NYU stern, usc, carnegie mellon, etc.

If you can get a better one, get a better one. If you have others that are better, I think sending that one with the better ones will be okay, if you don’t have other options.

Well you need two recs anyways so let’s see if the other one does you justice :]

In my high school, I had a really close relationship with my CS professor, and my work was very top-notch. However, the rec she wrote for me was not very long, nor was it even written all that well. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing other professors for additional recs and then choosing which ones you wish to send.

@legendofmax: My situation is similar to yours. I am one of this teacher’s favorite students, and he always tells me I should take an advanced version of his class in college etc. The thing is, that I’m not all that close with my other teachers, and I can’t think of any that’d give me a rave rec. The only thing I have going for me with the one I got is that it is entirely positive and compliments me on the things I’ve done. Would this rec put me at a disadvantage in the admission process? I mean, are the kids getting into the schools I’ve listed, going all have amazing recs?
