What was the deal breaker? Do you think you could have seen clues ahead of time?

Internet speed in the dorms was S L O W. So slow he could not upload his CS homework for the professor, nor even watch a You tube video. Not a good thing for a CS major. Unless he had stayed in a dorm with his computer, we couldn’t have known. We didn’t think to ask about internet speed, we just assumed it was sufficient!

Academics were weak. We thought we took a good look, but until he actually started classes, it was not clear. He sat in on some classes when he visited, but as I recall, they were sophomore level courses and not in his exact area of interest. So I think he thought they were ok. They were so weak that only 2 of his courses would be accepted by his transfer school. His calculus class and his CS class would not transfer.

90% of the kids in his dorm were on athletic teams. So there was no one around a majority of the time. They were off training with their teams or doing social or community activities with the team, or at the mandatory team study meetings. Again, unless he spent some time in the dorms, we couldn’t have known this.

So he cut his losses and moved on to a much better experience for him.
