I was just wondering how Yale's science department (specifically the biology/neuroscience departments) compare to the other ivys and Stanford.

This is a pretty broad question and hard to answer. Stanford has the reputation of having some of the strongest biological science departments in the nation and is ranked first in several of them. As far as Ivy league colleges, only Harvard truly competes with Yale for these students. Yale acquired a “West Campus” a few years back when it purchased a nearby pharmaceutical campus and this has recently expanded Yale’s laboratory space much quicker than its peers. Yale hopes to use the space for larger multi-disciplinary science ventures that would be hard to cobble together in its existing space. There are some advantages in attending a college with an attached medical school (unlike Harvard or Cornell) since it is easier to do laboratory work as an undergraduate at the medical school without wasting time commuting.

I’m not really very qualified to answer this but IMO the only schools out of those you mention that rival Yale are Harvard and Stanford.

So would you recommend Yale if you’re trying to pursue a pre-med track?

I think Biology is the #1 listed choice of incoming Freshmen – and I suspect many of them are aspiring pre-meds .

Of those who eventually apply to Med Schools, Yale has a great placement rate.
