Hi!
I have a bit unusual question, on which dunno find an answer in Russian forums. Hope, u will help me
So, the main problem is that I already have a bachelor degree in ‘business informatics’ (Russian university), but my dream - medicine. At first, I think that in the USA is the same educational system as in Russia one - we are able to have even 3 degrees in different fields. I started to write to universities/colleges that provide “need-based financial aid”, cuz my family get into this type of aid, and about 90% wrote that don’t give an opportunity to have the second bachelor degree.
So, the main questions are:
- Is it really so hard to find universities/colleges in that I am able to have the second bachelor degree but on a totally different sphere?
- Does my first bachelor degree in Russia equally to the same in the USA, or I complicate everything and have a chance to write to the universities with request fir first bachelor degree?
Thanks a lot!
You are not going to find significant financial aid for a second Bachelor’s degree. The second Bachelor’s degree would not help you much towards a US medical degree anyway.
What you really need are the pre-med courses. You can complete these in a year-long post-baccelaureate pre-med program, or at a community college. Whichever way you choose, be prepared to pay for it.
More importantly, you will need to be able to pay for US medical school. There’s no financial aid for international medical students. US medical schools are sticklish when accepting foreign students. For example, they may ask you to pre-pay the full cost of attendance for all 4 years into an escrow account. If you don’t have at least $200,000 available to you, the whole studying-medicine-in-the-US thing is a non-starter for you.
I don’t believe US colleges fund 2nd degrees even for US citizens. No, you can’t tell US universities that you’re a first time college student when you already have a degree. If you need financial aid for med school then you won’t be able to study in the US. Do colleges in your country offer aid for students like you?
In my country financial aid allot to students on the other way. Plus we have much more different salaries, that does not give opportunity to pay for college/university in the USA. For instance, 7000$ per year is OK
There isn’t much aid available in the US for 2nd degrees and none for med school. If your country allows multiple degrees then you should look into getting your 2nd degree there.
Just a note medical school acceptance is difficult for international students. They prefer domestic and the few spots available are usually funded by foreign countries
At first, I thought about college/university. As I know, a lot of them have major or minor such as neuropsychology. I don’t think that going to school is a good idea for me, but maybe I dunno particular features of American medical education.
Could I ask, why med school? Many college/university have major or minor such as neuropsychology
I don’t understand your question “Could I ask, why med school?”
Neuropsychology on the undergraduate level is very different from medicine. It is a mixture of biology, chemistry, anatomy and psychology. It leads to a bachelor’s degree that has nothing to do with being an MD. Medicine in the US a graduate program – you first have to have a bachelor’s degree – and is very, very difficult to get into, and very, very expensive. (No financial aid for international students, in fact some have to pre-pay before starting.)
