The Stereotype Elite-College Students Have About Other Campuses

Kind of an interesting article, as it looks like some stereotypes still persist (e.g., MIT is anti-social, Princeton is stiff, etc. etc.)

I’m sorry but the hands down “who gives a “%#}€” article of the year. What a Harvard junior thinks of other schools. Good lord.

Standard type of group psychology that all of us suffer from, thousands of years of genetic evolution make belonging to groups a powerful psychological force part of which includes demeaning other groups. There is much to be gained psychologically from belonging to a “group”.

Of course, you can just read the forums to find posts disdaining “lower Ivies”, “state schools”, [transfer students from] community colleges", etc…

Not going to even waste my time reading the article after reading the accurate comments above…buying into the false notion that “wealth and prestige” is everything while demeaning other groups…no thanks!!

There are some worthwhile insights in here. Not necessarily new, but worth being reminded of.

The sad part is that these kids will go through much of lives, pegging people, including themselves, as better or worse because of where they went to school, where they work, where they live, where their kids go to school, etc.

It’s exhausting and demoralizing to be in a race with no end. After this elite school, it’s the Rhodes, grad school, the right employer. The hierarchy continues to evolve.

And you’ll miss out on a lot of great friendships along the way because of this kind of judgement.

“These kids” do it because their parents do it. As ucbalumnus points out, these forums are full of it.
