Are they seriously going to judge us based on what we select for those boxes we have to check off? I feel like there are "right" and "wrong" answers -- what would happen if you said albino squirrels and womb chairs were an important part of your college selection process? Was it like this last year, and if so, is it to be taken seriously, or is it the college trying to seem light-hearted and buddy-buddy with the applicants?

You can relax–it’s just a joke.

Hahahha good, that’s what I was hoping for. Thanks :D

When my daughter applied for the class of 2014, she was so amused by the albino squirrel choice, that she typed in “no exploiting the albinos” in the “other” option. She leaves for Oberlin in a few weeks, so that should be a good indicator.

There aren’t really “right” or “wrong” answers to that question. It was added last year, I think with the idea that, in looking at the applicant pool as a whole, the general trends of what people answer might be significant or useful in some way. But, we didn’t want people to stress out too much about what to choose, so we added fun options like albino squirrels and womb chairs. We won’t hold it against you if you choose those options. Your answer to the essay question will give us a much better sense of why you’re interested in Oberlin.
