The Tennis Thread

Swimcat, I have had some of the best times queuing - I’ve even tented overnight a few times.

Are you going this year?

Serena finally lost a set. Roger is over his peak. Jo Willy is always fun to watch.

Darren Cahill just compared Djoker to Pat Rafter at the net. Granted, it was only about one shot - but made me throw up in my mouth.

I never thought of Novak as a net player. He doesn’t have the natural instinct to come to the net nor does he have the instincts of a Federer or Sampras. He’s a former baseliner with a great ground game with a slightly better-than-average net game - it’s his groundstrokes that set him up for relatively easy volleys.

He only said it referring to that one volley - but still Nole does not belong in any sentence with Pat and volley.

Novak is no good at the net. Whenever he goes to the net, I look away! But he is arguably the best in so many different aspects of the game currently. His lobs and drop shots are excellent, he has the best backhand, groundstrokes and serve return today, and he is very fit. Hopefully, he can win the French Open to complete his career Grand Slam. Nadal seems vulnerable this year, so this could be his best chance. I wouldn’t mind Tsonga win the French either. It is pretty clear that Nole and Nadal are going to dominate tennis for the next 3-4 years.

Nadal is going to have to show that he can last longer than part-way through Wimbledon without injuries to dominate. His performance at this year’s French Open isn’t as strong as what he has done in the past, probably due to his injuries. I don’t know that Djokovic is 100% either.

I think that Tsonga/Ferrer is competitive. Normally I’d pick Ferrer but Tsonga has played quite a good tournament and his head seems to be in good shape for the tournament.

I was thinking the Tsonga/Ferrer match was today but I guess it is tomorrow? Maybe I’ll get to watch it - hope so. Rooting for Tsonga.

I am excited for the Djokovic Nadal match tomorrow. I may have to DVR it and then enter the “cone of silence” until I get home.

Serena into the final. WE ARE NOT WORTHY!

I have a doctor’s appointment during Nadal/Djokovic :frowning: Good thing is I really only care about the other SF.

Serena beat the #5 player in the world on her worst surface 6-0, 6-1. I didn’t even see her sweat or go after a towel after her points.

Could Mary Carillo possibly get any more annoying.

I have no access to the Nadal/Nolo match. I’m following by radio script. Epic match.

^^^It’s like watching the bull and bear fights in the market for the past weeks.

Yay!!!

Now, come on David!!

That was incredible!!!

I should wear those white/straw hats at the U.S. Open. My H says it’s probably safe for him to wear fuschia pink shorts and shoe laces now since Rafa chose to wear that Nike attire.

Woot!!!

I really could care less who wins the Women’s Final, but I will watch the men, not really caring who wins.

Ferrer oldest man ever to get to a GS Final for the first time.

I didn’t see the score but I could see it going either way. I’ll catch the highlights. Did Tsonga self-destruct or did Ferrer just have an answer for Tsonga’s power?
