Karma. His attitude in the final of the French Open was disgraceful and unbecoming. He acted like a spoiled brat that never won a major. Pointing at Djokovic when he tripped on the net and refusing to have the clay sprayed when Djokovic was clearly having trouble gripping the surface…utterly shameful. Serves him right. I am sensing a Djokovic vs Murray final.

Pleasantly surprised. And I’m sure Mr. Federer is pleased, also. :)

You have good senses.

What???

I’ll have to watch the highlights of the match.

I read a news article and it looks like it was his knee again. I’m recovering from a knee injury too so I can sympathize. It seems like Nadal is good for one slam for the season these days. A few years ago, he made it through the French and Wimbledon.

Ugh. /Really/ don’t want Murray winning.

I feel the same. For Murray fans, don’t worry, my H doesn’t share my sentiments.

Nadal was slicing and chipping a lot of balls back, I saw him limping around after points and he wasn’t moving well. I think that his opponent played a very good though not great match. Rosol played a better match last year.

I’m gutted for rafa

I am not a big fan of Murray, but he is a class act and he wants it so bad. If he wins, I will definitely be happy for him.

BCEagle, I do not think Nadal played injured. Why would he risk it after coming off an injury recently. Nadal is not dominant on quick surfaces. Last year, he lost to Rosol in the second round at Wimbledon.

After his loss to Rosol at Wimbledon last year, Nadal took the rest of the year off. He certainly ran a risk playing Wimbledon last year.

Nadal has played with a bandage around his knee for most of 2013. I’ve used knee sleeves, bandages and straps for many years and I’m just about over my recent knee injury from three weeks ago. So I know what it’s like to play with one of those things. You may have them for prevention and it does help but you only wear them if you already have a problem (however minor) or if you’re likely to develop a problem.

Pros play with injuries all the time. I’m sure that you’ve seen Murray’s ankle braces, Djokvic’s Kineseo tape, Federer’s back brace, and the many women with kineseo on the arms, shoulders, and knees. Ankle supports are becoming so common on the pro tour - and if they’re not wearing an ankle support, they problem have them taped.

Did you see Murray’s blisters in the Australian Open this year? How did his team let that happen? I consider blisters an equipment issue. He played through the pain anyways and it looked like it affected his play.

I recall a match last year (Wimbledon) that Federer was in an he took a lengthy injury timeout to get a shot for back pain and came back and won the match. Why would a guy like Federer play injured? Because he thought that he could win without major damage.

Nadal also has two Wimbledon titles - not bad for a guy that isn’t dominant on quick surfaces. I think that even Wimbledon has slowed down their surface for longer rallies which is why you don’t see many (or any) S&V players like Tim Henman anymore.

Besides tennis , rafa is an amazing role model . He never mis behaves , gracious , hard working, never giving up , respectful . I can go on and on. That man is such class act.

I do wish that he would get shorts that fit.

Tired of hearing his knee being used as an excuse.

Happy for Lleyton.

Lol funny about shorts :))

He used to pull the back of his shorts only between every point. I think started this year, he is pulling the front too. For some reason, all that is starting to bug me :(

The knee is an excuse but it’s his fault. His style of play is brutal on his lower joints and I often wince when I see some of the shots that he makes. He’s had knee issues since he was a teenager and it’s getting harder to get away with his style as he gets older. I’ve often wondered why he doesn’t move to a more efficient style of play to preserve his knee but I guess you do what has worked for you for so many years.

I was surprised by the Hewitt-Wawrinka score too when I saw it earlier. Hewitt has good longevity.

BCEagle, Rafa has ruled out injury in the post-game press conference. He was not playing hurt.

I remember one year when he and Fed were walking out onto court at Wimbledon many years ago. Nadal went out first and then just before going on court he bends over at the waist to tie his shoes. Federer, who was following, immediately backed up a few steps.

Rafa didn’t use injury as an excuse.

I read the transcript and didn’t see where he ruled out injury. Do you have a quote? Murray wouldn’t use his blisters as a reason why he lost to Djokovic in the AO either but it was clearly causing him great pain. Read some of the articles and watch the video, he was clearly hobbled on the forehand side - he didn’t go after plenty of shots that were reachable if he weren’t injured.

"“It’s not the day to talk about these kinds of things. I am confident that I will have a good recovery and be ready for the next tournaments,” he said. "

““That’s the sport and sometimes you play well and have the chance to win and sometimes you play worse and the opponent plays well and you lose,” Nadal said. “I tried my best out there in every moment and it was not possible for me this afternoon and that’s all.””

““I don’t want to talk about my knee this afternoon,” he said. “All I can say today is I want to congratulate Steve Darcis. He played a fantastic match, and everything I say about my knee today is an excuse and I don’t like to put any excuses when I am losing a match like I lost today.””

We’ll see what his tournament schedule is like for the rest of the summer. My guess is that he’s going to take a break. Again.

“He used to pull the back of his shorts only between every point. I think started this year, he is pulling the front too. For some reason, all that is starting to bug me.”

They showed a video of Rafa when he was 13 and playing in the juniors, and not only did he not pick his knicks he had none of his other idiosyncrasies! He’s like a walking definition of OCD. I thought my obsession with having left the iron/straighteners on was bad enough, but I’m amazed he ever gets out of the house in the morning!

“Rafa didn’t use injury as an excuse.”

No, he didn’t - but the comms started in on the excuse by the beginning of the 3rd set with the, “he seems to be limping blah, blah, blah,” nonsense.
