The Tennis Thread

^ Father definitely belongs on the list with the other horrid tennis dads.

I had a hard time watching her jumping around and twitching, too.

I don’t think Bartoli would have another lucky draw like what happened at Wimbledon but why did she have to retire because of one loss
err
injuries. Just take a year-long injury break and prove detractors that her Wimbledon win was not a fluke.

She might be back. There have been several un-retirements on the ladies side.

It’s only WTT but Hingis looked super playing this year playing for the Washington Kastles

^ She is thinking of making another come back. I know she played dubs last week in Montreal. Forget with who.

Well, dubs works for the Bryan’s
Martina seemed to be really enjoying herself in DC.

I went to the ATP in Cincinnati today–saw Djkovic, del Pottro, Federer matches.

Beautiful day with beautiful tennis.

Lucky you. Glad you enjoyed.

Fed/Haas was a very good match. And Tommy is always enjoyable to watch. :)

So sad to learn of Marion Bartoli’s retirement. It was always interesting to watch her play and hit those jaw-dropping, impossible angles w her unconventional style. She is such an inspiration-- just goes to show that one can achieve great success along different paths.

Apparently she has a super-scary, Mensa genius+ IQ. No doubt she will do something interesting w her life.

After the first set, and the beginning of the second–I thought it was going to be Tommy’s day. Roger just didn’t seem into it until the middle of the second set.

So guys, who do you think will win the U.S. Open? I say Nadal but maybe he peaked too early. Rooting for Djokovic though.

I could be wrong, but I do not recall any man winning both at Cincinnati and Flushing Meadows.

Rafter (1998), Agassi (1995) and Roddick (2003) all won Montreal, Cincy and then the US Open.

emilybee, Agassi won the US Open in 1994, not 1995. But I think you are right about Rafter and Roddick.

Sorry, typo. But I think he only won Canada in '94 anyway. '95 was the year he won both but lost the USO.

But Rafter & Roddick definitely won all three in the same year.

Which is very impressive. Winning 16 matches in a row in such a competitive string of tournaments requires incredible drive and focus. The way he is playing now, Nadal can certainly pull it off, but hopefully, Djokovic will win it!

I believe in '98 Rafter also won the tourney (The Hamlet Cup) the week before the Open.

Rooting for Novak.

Azarenka d Williams. I can’t say I’m upset, especially after the latter’s comments on Steubenville.

Since there are so many different channels broadcasting the USO this year I’m posting TV schedules.

Time Warner has blacked out CBS here. They are in a contract dispute. I hope the US Open live stream will broadcast the semis and the final. I don’t like watching sports re-runs so the Tennis Channel re-run broadcast won’t help.
