The Unique NU Application...

I've heard the Northwestern Application is really difficult and different and UNcommon... but after seeing the ED thread I'm starting to think that I might actually have a chance there, and I've heard good things about the school. So here are my questions:

1.) How long did the application take you to fill out? Can you use your "personal statement" from the common app?

2.) When is the RD date for the application?

Thanks!

Filling out the application itself is not the problem. It's the essays/short answers that should take time, so depending how much time you put into them will determine how long it'll take. But NU's app is not even that bad compared to Mich:Ann Arbor, that app was a b*tch

that's what I meant-- how long did it take you for the essays and such. I guess it really differs from person to person, I'm the type who could obsess over it for days... anyone know the RD postmark/due date?

The application is nothing like U Chicago. I thought the short answers were basic questions that could be done in 30-45 minutes each, and I was able to use my regular common application essay. The questions weren't that difficult, and it was easy to adapt the pre-written essay to one of the topics just by changing a few sentences.

essay...depends on which ones you've already written and how easily ideas come to you. If you want to stress hours over a single SA, go ahead. But I pretty much went with what my gut told me. Maybe..4-5 hours for all the writing stuff. The rest is pretty straightforward.

omfg, second mariokindy's comment of u of m's app being a total pain. But I don't agree that it's "not that bad." NU might've been worse. Or it was a tie. waaaay too much writing for the both.

-RD is due Jan. 1st

-This year's essay questions aren't that difficult. If you're from California, the prompt is similar/tweak-able to two of the UC prompts.

-The short answers may take time to brainstorm, but shouldn't take that long to actually write/edit.

thanks to everyone for your responses! I can't apply to Northwestern sadly b/c it's a January 1st deadline and my school's college office says it's too late... but still, really appreciate it! :) Good luck to you all!
