I currently go to umd. I've seen all around these boards that supposedly prestige does matter in finding a job. Is umd considered a prestigious engineering school. It consistently has many high ranking programs, even programs higher ranked than "well-known" schools. But, I'm wondering, at the end of the day, how does a degree from maryland look to a potential employer?

It's fine bro. UMD is a fine institution in terms of reputation.

It's a good school. I don't think it gets quite the recognition nationwide, but the rankings speak for themselves. If you're going to be working in MD/DC/VA once you graduate you shouldn't have a problem finding a good job. The defense industry in MD is enormous and employers prefer MD grads because 1) the program is soild 2) you're in-state so you'll be cheaper to interview etc.
