You would have been notified by housing if it were supplemental space rather than a room.

Do you know if we’re allowed to bring coffee makers?

“Coffee makers larger than 12-cup are not permitted”

Thought I’d disinter this thread again as it may be of use to some of us currently involved in this process… I’ve looked through it several times and I keep picking up new information.

good idea–I was just reading through this and saw that all bathrooms in dorms are locked and you have to have a code to get in - that’s good to know.

I have a question about Honors dorms–I have my online contract and applied for honors housing, but for dorm options, you can’t put the specific dorm you want – only “Honors”. I was wondering if you ever get a chance to specify which honors dorm you want, or if they randomly assign you to one of the three…

what are the chances for a non-honors (second year) student getting into an honors dorm (not living with an honors roommate)?

I would email and ask the UT Housing office on that one.

Henry - here’s what is says on the housing page:

What if I want to live in Honors Housing?

Only Honors Hall residents are eligible to request a room in the Honors Halls. If you currently live in the Honors Halls, you will be given the option to request Honors Housing when you update your housing choices.
If you do not currently live in Honors, but are interested in the Residential Honors program you can go to the MyHousing page and indicate your interest in Honors. Students interested in living in the Honors Halls will be reviewed by the Honors Center.

Squiggles - No, you do not have the option to specify a specific honors dorm. If you choose honors, you are assigned to one of the three.

Does the $200 Fee guarantee housing?

What do you think about my choices?

Honors (I applied for Dean’s Scholars)

Littlefield

Kinsolving

Jester

Moore-Hill

I really don’t want to live in choices 4 and 5. I wanted to put Whitis down as my 4th choice but doing so would make me give up Honors Housing to be in a FIG (which is something I like as well). I don’t know if I should switch my 2nd and 3rd choice. Littlefield is in the Honors Quad so it’s closer to the science classes, but the rooms are small. Kinsolving sounds like a really good dorm but it’s a little farther from science classes.

Kinsolving is across the street from Littlefield. It is really close to the honors quad. The rooms there are nice.

The process for applying for a residential FIG is different than specifying Whitis. Email UT Housing to ask how and when you apply for a residential FIG; I am pretty sure you don’t need to deal with this decision til June, after you know if you have been accepted to an honors program or not.

I would put Kinsolving above Littlefield. Kinsolving’s rooms are much bigger and the cafeteria is there. The difference in distance to the science buildings is negligible.

Actually, our daughter appreciated Littlefield’s location (part of the quad) and found Kinsolving’s bigger size to be less nurturing. Kinsolving houses 735 students, while Littlefield houses 152.

How does UT housing determine whether you get your first choice dorm? Is it first come first served? Or is it based on some other factor?

Littlefield is a part of the quad only by location. Littlefield resident do not participate with quad activities or interact with ABC residents. ABC residents have access to any of the ABC dorms, but not Littlefield.

IMO, Littlefield is a bit of a loner girls dorm. Could be good if you are a parent.

It is based on the date you paid your $50 Housing Application deposit.

liu02bhs, thanks for clarifying. Littlefield is only part of the quad location-wise.

She just felt that Kinsolving was big and impersonal. And mentioned that she wished she had considered Littlefield for her first year.

Thanks for all the imput…but I’m still on the fence about both of them, but I’m leaning toward Kinsolving. My friend’s sister dorms there and my physician used to as well and they’ve told me good things about it.

Change in housing choices—
This year the honors dorms are listed individually, ie, Blanton, Andrews, Carothers, on the housing choice drop down menu.
Does anyone know if this means housing will actually put students in the honors dorm they request?
Also, do upper classmen have to put honors first or not at all? For example, could you list San Jac, then Andrews, and have a chance of getting into Andrews if San Jac didn’t pan out?
