The usual freshmen schedule thing ;)

Here's what I have planned:

Math 53
Chem 4A
German 1 (I really want to learn Deutsch)
Some RC course (or Physics 7B?)
Chem C96

So we're potentially looking at 18 units (:O ?). I'm kind of expecting a 4 on the AP Lit exam, so that I'll be taking a B RC course. With the summer session, I'll ideally have taken care of the AC requirement (how's ethnic studies 21ac with saragoza in the summer...).

So what should I phase I? The Math 53 lectures need to be on different days from the days in which there are Chem 4A lectures (otherwise, conflict!). Also, I'm currently a declared Chem major, but am considering going to ChemE (hopefully, freshman year can make this clear), so there's that to consider. I was thinking about taking Physics 7B instead of the RC course (assuming I at least get a 5 and 4 for the physics c exams).

And, from a freshman's perspective, how would you consider auditioning for and being in the symphonic orchestra (seems like an activity, but it's a 2-unit course (huh))?

no 7b or else… you could be in for a joy ride.

yeah no 7B

mines similar to yours except im not doing language. i’ll probably end up doing my AC requirement over the summer and get ahead on math 53. I’m also taking Physics A.

btw, whats RC? is that the English R1A/B courses?

So I guess I should save 7B for the spring semester? I’ll be taking Math 54 over the summer as well, so I was thinking how it’d be more convenient.

newnonstop91: RC’s the Reading & Composition requirement. English R1A/B are included, but so are various courses (A and B) like Rhetoric, Comparative, German Lit (in English), French Lit (also in English), etc… Sounds like people here like the German one, although it’s full already. :frowning: How’s the French lit (or however you call it)?

So yeah, what should I phase I, again? Then there’s the question about the orchestra. And do you think it’d be worthwhile to take a Chemical Engineering seminar that can show me what Chemical Engineering’s about? I was thinking that I can find out for myself… somehow… (placing too much hope in C96, perhaps?). Besides, that’d be like 20 units X_X

18-20 units?!?! You will be one sad freshman all semester long.

Taking a Chem E seminar usually won’t tell you much about the subject. I took Chem E 24 with Dr. Reimer last fall and most of the material wasn’t too related to Chem E. However, it really depends on who the professor is.

The best resources to learn about Chem E is probably AICHE, the Chem E club. I think they will probably hold some sort of informational meeting to teach you what Chem E is. You will also be assigned a faculty advisor by your major, so you can talk to them about it as well.

Well, the 18 units just happened (yay for Deutsch and CoC freshmen! :P), I guess. To be fair, it’s essentially 17 units, right, since C96 is a seminar (or am I horribly underestimating German and C96)?

Anyone know much about French R1B, Italian R5B, African American Studies R1B, and Asian American Studies R2B? I’ve got a feeling that they’ll be full come CalSO ( :frowning: ), and I’m probably making big assumptions about that AP Lit test. :/
