The very best

If not already when do you think Olin will be recognized as the absolute best college?

You have to wait until Olin's alumni network gets stronger. If all Olin produces are doctors or money making businessmen, then maybe never. If it also gets a Nobel Prize or two or five then maybe in this century.

It's already the #1 college in my book!!

(But maybe I'm a little biased)

:)

KE

I don't attend Olin and I really have hard time believing it is not already number one. I say this based on what they have accomplished so far.

Well our dream is that Olin's method of teaching will migrate over to engineering schools across the country, so not only will Olin itself improve, but engineering education will improve as a whole. If Olin becomes the best engineering school in the country but no one else adapts our practices, then we will have failed as a whole.

I want to echo Kelliott. As much as I love Olin and think it's great. The dream of Olin was to create a repeatable model of engineering education that could be ported over to other schools. The National Science Foundation want engineering education to change and improve and hopes Olin can demonstrate a path to a better kind of engineering education. However, we also want Olin to keep being innovative and staying on the forefront of education and if we do that, maybe we can always see ourselves as "the best," at least when it comes to engineering education.

Whoa, whoa, come on guys, seriously. :)

The "number one college" is not something that actually exists; I hope you realize that and are making some kind of joke. Olin is a great school. I love being there and am excited about break being over, even with the work... But Olin isn't for everyone, especially people who don't want to to have anything to do with engineering (duh?). No school can be everything for everyone, so don't worry about if you get into "the best school" if it isn't the best school for you. Candidate's weekend especially is the time when you and Olin get to know each other better and see if there's a good fit. It isn't about being "number one," it's the fit. I hope, for all you sakes, that Olin's "number one-ness" is not significant reason for you wanting to go; you might be disappointed because college is a lot more than that.

Molly, Olin '09

The rapid increase in the number of applicant says a lot.

I agree with Molly. Do not come to Olin simply for the "prestige." It's the next four years of your life, and you want to make sure you're going to be the happiest you can be.

I agree. I'm going to CW, but I am rather unsure about how I'll feel about the size and several other factors that make it unique. I could very well turn it down for a state school.
