The Wait List

I would just reply saying you will reapply because they said “admission is not possible this year”. I would add the recent achievements to next year’s application.

Just a reminder, to those of you who have already happily committed to a school — the polite thing to do is to notify any schools that still have you on the waitlist, so they can shorten their list by one.

DD got off waitlist at Dana Hall today
We are beyond excited for her!

So it’s not too late? Congrats! @APMama .
My daughter is on WL for Winsor, Nobles, Milton, BB&N! We have our fingers crossed!

She was waitlisted at 5 schools and required significant aide so we know that had to play a large role in her being waitlisted. Only one of those 5 contacted her that their WL was closed. All the others have messaged her to hang in there and be patient, one even said they wouldn’t know until June when first tuition payments are due. I would say until they notify you the process is over that there is still a chance.

@APMama We love hearing good news like that! Congrats!!!

Any good waitlist stories through the spring/summer?

I know that some schools have separate spring/summer waitlists and they are almost impossible to get off of but still there is a chance.

@GSchools My son tried for two of the HADES schools and three “hidden gem” schools in Massachusetts. He was rejected and waitlisted for the two HADES he applied to and waitlisted from all three “hidden gem” schools. For the “hidden gem” schools he was accepted but was awaiting FA. So, technically, he was FA waitlisted. On 13 April, the Monday following 10 April we received notification via email that he received 80% FA from one of the “hidden gem” schools. As it has been said throughout this forum, “go with the school that is loving you” and we paid the deposit. For grins, we decided to remain on the FA waitlist for the school that was his #1 choice and see if anything occurs in the summer.

As others have said in this forum, there is hope and I thank them for sharing their previous waitlist stories.

Still on hold with at least one (GLADCHEMMS) school…asking that we remain patient. No idea, whatsoever, how to read this. Measured optimism is our mode.

@mathmusicmadness I decided to remain on two schools, one is HADES school but both are top tier. They say that they are overenrolled and quite full, but will definitely contact me if there is any movement. The worst part about the waitlist is that it makes you hope so much even though there is hardly any. I am pretty much going to my local school or be offered the chance to attend one of these two schools since I turned down three schools I was accepted to after revisit day. May seem foolish, but it just wasn’t the fit for me. Anyways, I hope you get into the school you want.

any new news?

Anyone converted from waitlist ? Just curious…

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying your summer. I would just like to let everyone know that I got off the waitlist for Groton TODAY. I’m not likely to go, since I’m pretty sure about my choice to go to another prep school, but if this happened to me, it can happen to you. Good luck everyone!

Ethics 101 for March 10, 2016: if a school offers you a full ride or FA and you commit to that school A10 you are not allowed to stay on a waitlist at another school. Period. It is against the rules and it’s highly unethical.

Umm what brought this up?

It’s advice for next M10-A10 @mrnephew. Do you disagree?

Nope, just wondering.

I’m not sure about attempting to define ethics on this one. If applicants sign any agreements that they will abide by as far as acceptances and wait lists, etc., then we can ask them to respect those commitments. If we are just asking folks to “do the right thing”, well, that just hurts the honest folks.

I have to wonder about the charachter of a parent that would game the system this way and what message does this send to the child? In my experience unethical and/or dishonest parents end up raising kids with the same lack of values.

I thought it was a comment by sherunsonwater, post #772, that prompted the conversation stream.
