^^^I think you mean April 10
Where are you @ChoatieMom? Back me up please on #1198
If Choate is the type of school that @GnarWhail is describing, then I have misenterpreted every single thing about the schoolā¦ the kids seemed so happy there and everyone had tons of personality and was individualistic. Iāve heard nothing but positive things about the school. Nothing even close to the school being a gloomy, homework-machine, stress-inducing, personality-less schoolā¦
That ārepā doesnāt exist Iām pretty sure. Iāve literally never heard that.
I know that @GnarWhail doesnāt totally agree with this ārepā, but I just want to say that Iāve never even heard of that from anybody.
Stereotypes are essentially built on some basis of fact. But I donāt think itās fair to just declare a school (like Choate) a system creating ārobots.ā Schools are what the students make of them, and I think that many students in such schools are happy and full of energy.
IDKā¦ my kids always seemed reasonably happyā¦ even though I probably wouldāve preferred it if they looked a little more miserableā¦
How did we get here?
My kid survived. Even had a bit of fun now and then. Between beatings, of course. With a re-cycled hickory stick.
With all comments, consider the source and posting history.
Heyā¦BS has to be somewhat similar to homeā¦ maybe I shouldāve made DS apply to Choateā¦he needs a regular beating
Yes, please do consider any source and posting history. Please.
I apologize if I hit a nerveā¦other than looking at google maps and my son seeing that it was in a city, I know nothing about Choate. But I can probably speak for my son that BS will not be as strict as home.
@Nico.campbell Letās just say that as a prospective student, you didnāt hear many, many things about lots of schools. An accepted studentās reality or a parentās reality may be spot on or not. But please keep in mind that when anything having to do with boarding school or college or whatever else you can image begins to sound like a drunken chorus of glad-handing self-congratulation and double-distilled smarm, credulity should fly away as fast as possible. Be a sober consumer at your new school and do your best to minimize the time spent gazing dreamingly in a circle. Thereās lots to be had, to be seen, to be done, but donāt pretend things are always what people tell you they are.
Always consider the source. Good advice, even if it doesnāt always work out the way it is intended.
If thatās the case, then whatās the point of a revisit at all? Schools are obviously putting their best faces forward on revisit days, but saying that all credulity should be abandoned is extremely cynical. If I were a current student at my school, I wouldnāt feel the need to hide what my current bs is truly like, would you?
I understand that not everything is as it seems, Iām a realist. There are drugs, alcohol, sex, and maybe even some kids that shouldnāt be there. My point is that I havenāt heard of your ārepā about Choate. Hell, it was known as the party bs back in the day. And I donāt believe that they would admit me if they thought that I was going to spend my days at Choate āgazingā.
A lot of the people that have told me that they love Choate arenāt parents or current students. The person who has told me the most about how much they like Choate is literally a Deerfield alumni. Iām not naive, Iām not going to totally believe everything that an AO tells me about how amazing the school is.
Choate can be absolutely phenomenal for the right kid: ambitious, mature, above-average life skills, confident, and (strangely) humble.
Re: Choate as a ābrutal, soul destroying engineā as posted earlier is a little off the deep-end, no? Even DC who DOES NOT meet aforementioned ideal Choate good fit would never describe it that way, and this DC has had a less than smooth ride.
@HMom16 I know yesterday was a crazy busy day for youā¦and Iām trying to be patient, but Iām dying to know what the final decision wasā¦? :-SS
Exeter email just stated that they are fully enrolled as of 4/10 and would not be going to the waitlist until later in spring or summer if then.
About the wait lists - just received an email from Exeter saying that they are fully enrolled for now - anyone received same ?
Always knew that chances of getting off of waitlist are very remote - but this kind of gives a proper closure.
Congratulations to everyone who got off of waitlist at other schools.
Whatever negative is being said about Choate, you can easily say about Exeter and Andover. I think we all hear rumors, and negativity. Letās try to remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Itās not about Choate, but you can find negative stories (and hopefully positive ones) about all these schools.
Great comment. @preppedparent
DS picked Choate.
