The Wait List

Congrats! I wish him all the best. @libaya

@libaya that’s great! Thanks for letting us know.

Very Weird comment from GnarWhail. Can I ask if you are a kid or a parent? Cause I think I am very current with the reps of all the NE boarding schools having been at jr boarding school for 3 years and having two siblings and many friends at all the others. Weird thing is if I didnt know what school you were talking about in your comment , and then I guessed, I would probably have guessed five schools before I guessed Choate. I think this comment comes from a place of anger or the person is just very out of touch with realities. But guess this what they talk about when they say Fake News. From what I know, about the big schools, Choate has the nicest, most individual kids out there, not robots at all. And FYI I am not attending Choate next year if you think that is why I wrote this.

Finally!! @libaya But am I reading too much into the lack of an exclamation mark at the end of your announcement, or you sound a little disappointed? to be honest, I knew Choate would not be easy to turn down given it was your son’s top choice. Besides the AOs and school admistration there are warm and helpful, which doesn’t hurt. Years ago we had a hard time deciding between Choate and Andover for one of my kids
 Congratulations!

Just received email from MX that they are now full and will not go to WL. Again, just relaying what was in the email-- it did not specify this was only for specific gender or grade.

@buuzn03 thanks for the info! do you mind posting the email message? i am on MX WL and haven’t received anything. thank you.

I can try to cut and paste what was sent
although, if you haven’t noticed, I am a bit technologically challenged.

“While we are currently a full school, there is the possibility that our enrollment could change between now and the opening of school in September. If that were to happen, and a space in our applicant pool became available, we would consider your application at that time.”

Congrats @libaya He won’t be sorry. Forever true to gold and blue.

@Wannaboard As on CC as in life, anything you ever hear which contravenes your own preconceived notions is automatically 100% false, bad, worthless, not to be trusted, considered, or even mentioned ever again. Intransigence is wisdom. Look at the source. And the posting history. Think of the children!

Or think of it this way: a boarding school is not a community. It is made up of communities. What are some of those communities besides the students?

Everything the usual prospective student knows about a school is what can be seen through a keyhole. And they’re not even sure what room they’re peeking into.

Enjoy teh ride.

Well, where did you establish your views on Choate? Did you attend that school or was it based off of others? @GnarWhail

Congrats on the decision. @libaya. I know it wasn’t your first choice, but it was your child’s. You have shown that you are a supportive and trusting parent. Lucky kid. Enjoy having this behind you!

@buuzn03 Thank you! I just got the same email a few minutes ago.:frowning:

@lusitari My views on Choate? My views on Choate are that it’s a good school in the traditional small group of schools which are legit first choices for the most competitive applicants.

And back on topic for anyone lurking around and not concerned about the impossible waitlist chances at the most famous schools and without the desire to read through the entire thread: there is (some, a bit, a little) more waitlist activity the further you go down the food chain. Not a flood. Financial aid will be a tough get this time of year, but it’s not 100% impossible.

@Gnarwhail Just because im 13 doesnt make me a fool. Are you an adult acting like a kid (using what you think is a cool name) or just a kid would doesnt who wants to feel like he is in the know.
I have personal experience with kids that go to Choate (ie my siblings, best friends) so this in not gossip and BS. I fully understand what each school offers and doesnt, and in most cases they are quite close. What gives you the right to condemn that school? Did you go there? When? Did you teach there, when? Were you rejected? I can guess why or as I would bet, you are a Deerfield kid who thinks it is cool to degrade Choate in the spirit of rivalry. FYI I am DF class of of 2021 and I prey I am wrong and you are not at DF.

My sense is that @GnarWhail is a “casual commentator”, meaning he doesn’t necessarily have a horse in the race, or otherwise has close ties to these schools. He does sort of have this mild ambivalent feeling towards the few top schools. His comments are really “hit or miss” but most of the time not that intense if you don’t corner him. I feel his comments are easier to take, entertain or ignore than comments that are meant to passionately defend a school or “a concept” “at all cost”.

@Wannaboard Best of luck to you.

@panpacific I take extreme umbrage to that vile personal attack and demand satisfaction! Sevendad’s kid’s worn out foils at 20 metres, joust format, on cross bikes, exactly halfway between Deerfield and Choate on Rt. 5 tomorrow at sunset. Consider the source! And the posting history!

@GnarWhail will there be popcorn at this event? If there are snacks, it may be worth the trip up for some entertainment of pure unadulterated New England bicycle-fence-jousting!!! Not to mention viral video potential!

@buuzn03 Popcorn? There will be tears! I fight for personal honor and the glory of reading comprehension! No time for popcorn. Or creamed corn.
