Same here…Same grade, for my daughter…Would be a top 3 runner on x-c team…3.92 GPA…Haven’t heard a word and don’t expect too…I have no idea what they’re looking for…So sad, good luck
I feel it BS…It’s about the $$…My daughters credentials are mind blowing, can’t get better, won’t be doing this again…So sad
Ok so can we get a list of folks still on the wait list so we can all send them positive vibes? DS was there last year and it was awful!!! Don’t despair. He reapplied this year and is going to Andover this fall. If the kids decide they want it they really go for it! It’s been so exciting seeing everyone’s decisions post. Congrats to all!
Does anybody know if Peddie, NMH, the Hill or Choate went to their waitlist, especially for their international applicants? I have been waitlisted at those schools… Any answers for me?
@Fmap66 You need to realize that sometimes things just do not work out as you were hoping.
My DD has also applied this year as 10th grader and got zero acceptance. She also has very nice credentials, including 1590 on the Redesigned SAT with many science competitions and athletic awards. And kids of other parents here, who got acceptance letters, also have outstanding credentials in different areas and AOs considered them as better fit or there were other considerations as well that we shall never know about.
Unfortunately, Rejection or Wait List are also part of this game’s rules. And if you can’t handle rejection, then you should have not applied in the first place.
I’ve also got to tell you that St.Mark’s is full.
@GnarWhail @panpacific: It’s epees, not foils. And you are welcome to borrow them at any time. I must warn you though, that they tend to leave a mark. En garde, prêt, allez!
@Fmap66 reach out to @Atria who will be a MX zebra this year. She faced the WL world last year and, correct me if I’m wrong @Atria but I’m sure I read at one point you thought you weren’t going to go through it again, but instead you came back with a vengeance and completely changed your approach. It’s not all about the Benjamins. Sometimes it’s about the schools seeing more than a stat. Believe me, buuznfamily was slapped in the face with our outcome, too, only to finally realize how fortunate we were for the one acceptance in such a competitive field of candidates. Also, reach out to @narcissediaz98 who is looking at rolling admissions schools, if you really want a place this year. Many all-girls schools are not yet full and may be interested in your DD. It is all about the approach and what you’re in the game for. Good luck!!!
Thank you @buzzn03 !
@Fmap66 after going through the process last year and having my DD at school this year, one thing that I’ve noticed in a huge way is the maturity of the students at school. DD was home for spring break and saw her local friends from middle school and difference is more than I ever imagined. Because you say your daughter is very bright and excels in her sport, I wonder if you could share more about her soft skills like communicating with adults?
I’m playing a game with myself - as soon as April the Giraffe gives birth, my DS will get off the waitlist. Honestly, I think that giraffe is just fat…
@ThemApples I’ve been questioning the capabilities of the vet, myself!
@Fmap66 and @MAandMEmom. So I’ve written this before, but worth repeating. My daughter was the top sprinter in the state, 99% on SSATs, great athlete in multiple sports (defense field hockey, gold medal swimmer), “A” student, #1 in her eighth grade class still rejected by Andover, Deerfield and Exeter (got into Choate). When her track coach called Andover’s track coach, he said “We already got 3 of those (meaning sprinters), what else you got?”
It’s not all about grades and scores. I wish it were. It would be more fair. Great kids get turned away every year, and its not even about changing your approach the next year. I wish it were that easy. You gotta have what the school needs. You gotta check the box they need: URM, first gen, poor, rich, 3 sport varsity athlete, oboe player (or whatever they need at the time).
(This is not meant as a direct reply to any one person or post, hence the lack of tagging. Seriously. The you is not intended to be you, whoever you are. I mean it. Spiel for entertainment purposes only. No information should be inferred. As always, consider the source and the posting history. In my opinion. For what it’s worth. Atmo.)
And while it’s nice to feed your ego by getting yourself or your kid accepted everywhere cuz you(r kid) are so freeking awesome, getting into Choate is what is called a best-case scenario–as would a sole acceptance to Andover or Deerfield or Exeter. Or a few other legit #1s for the most competitive applicants. The schools are not identical, but they are all pretty great for the right kind of kids–and you can only go to one! It’s so satisfying to get all wound up over the most inane minutiae sometimes when the only proper exchange should be “Hotchkiss?” “Awesome!”
@Fmap66 I agree with @preppedparent. Even though we started looking just last Nov for 10th grade, I already knew about this site. I also had a consultant with 25+years experience. I used consultant mostly to get a list of BS to apply to and geographic help, since I had no clue. But, all info is otherwise available on CC. Everyone wants to help. My kid is URM, awards in multiple sports, looks athletic, advanced math, excellent writing, great interviews, 99% on SSAT, 99% PSAT, presents mature and has self-confidence, has had leadership rolls, volunteered, well-travelled, under-represented state. Each AO interviewer (8 total) had only positive things to say about him and how they thought he would fit into their school. Only applied to 5 (don’t apply to a school you or your kid does not want to actually go to). Got into 1 school, got off WL at Choate. He has NO hooks for choate. None. Not only did we shell out for app fees, we travelled cross-country for interviews and tours (airfares, hotels, rental cars) both coasts, and we are losing our MX deposit. Would I do it again? Yeah, in a heartbeat (except for the deposit). In fact, I am going to do it again for other kid. If BS is a true dream, keep on persisting.
I admire @Atria for her resilience and persistence and she is going to my top choice school!!!
@libaya. That’s my kid, too, only we applied to 11 and never got off of a WL (though we only stayed on 1)… and the cross country travel, URM…everything. And I would do it again in a heartbeat and am so thankful for the result. And in four years will be going through it with kid2 (unless there’s a change of heart) while helping kid1 apply to college.
There are more of us than the multiple acceptance families. Obviously, look at the stats. But taking in as much information from everyone at CC, I hope to feel better prepared for this process next time!
Plus, I’m ordering a crystal ball!
My only point in #1293 is that a student may be doing everything right (and nothing wrong) and still not get in. It’s not a matter of trying harder or doing something different necessarily the next year. I too admire the tenacity some kids have to try and try again. Persistence is a virtue in all things. My point is students shouldn’t feel that they are not good enough or as good as those who are accepted. It’s very difficult to understand that you might be rocky road and a school is looking for bubble gum flavored. (no offense to anyone intended, just trying to choose 2 interesting and top notch flavors that are unique but different). And yes, we were thrilled to get one acceptance.
When I applied to Andover my athletic coach (a PA alum) wrote a personal recommendation for me. When decisions came out he had been contacted directly about my waitlist status.
Today, he told me that he heard word from Andover again, and apparently their yield sky-rocked this year, leaving no chance for the WL as last weeks email indicated. My guess is that their #SayYesToAndover campaign really worked this year…:))
Just thought I’d tell you guys about that.
I just received an email from St.Pauls:
“I am writing to update you on the status of the St. Paul’s School wait list. At the moment we are fully enrolled and will not be moving anyone off the wait list. And while there is always the possibility of a change over the summer, we have no way of predicting when or even if we will have any openings for the fall of 2017. If you wish to remain on our wait list through the summer, let us know by replying to this e-mail with your name. As your application is complete, there is no need to send us additional materials at this time.
You have honored us with your interest in St. Paul’s School and I thank you very much for your patience. And on behalf of the St. Paul’s School office of Admission, I wish you the very best of luck.”
Sincerely,
Scott P. Bohan '94
