The Waiting List...

Any updates?

I received a call on my cell phone, and then an email, both from the admissions representative from my area (who I met). I stupidly had my phone downstairs, but I got the email soon after. They gave me until “the end of the day” Wednesday, and I had received the email on a Tuesday. You have to make a decision quickly, but luckily for me, it was a no-brainer. :-)

Repeating again to catch your attention. Please reply asap:

Have any internationals been accepted off the waitlist?

Hey everyone,

My question will be about the current status of the waiting list in regards with the international students. If any of the international student is accepted off the waiting list, please share with us the news. We look forward to hearing the latest developments as we are anxious about the decisions to be made…

I am an international and I’m

not off the wait list.

:(

Do you think waitlist offers have already ended? Are they finished?

Another reason for a school as popular as Midd to expand its WL is to be able to pull in more full-pay students, since admission from the WL is not need-blind. Midd knows it will have no trouble filling its class with top students, even with more coming from the WL than usual, so there really wouldn’t be too much of a downside to taking fewer ED and RD and creating a longer WL without the need-blind factor.

i got in last wednesday. email and phone call.

nkidd23, are you an international student? which major? any financial aid requests? :)

I am going to make a strictly business-minded observation. Midd said earlier in the year they were going to increase student population on top of an already large rising senior class as a revenue growth initiative. I think that any wait list internationals, let alone US students, are going to be more full pay than not. I do not, however, think Midd held back on acceptance of ED students as that has remained stable over the last few years. But at the end of the day (and certainly anything after May 1 is later in the day already), it’s about paying the light bill. To think otherwise is to not understand basic economics.

Thank you for your keen business-minded observation, however:

a. people tend to use some help from an institution called “hope” in these situations,
b. statistics are not always, if not usually never, a reliable source at predicting the decisions of the admissions offices.

Anyhow, we’ll wait and see…

If they knew for certain that they were only going to accept full-paying students off the waitlist, they would not have waitlisted us in the first place. However, I do understand that our chances are very, very slim…

Do you guys know if Middlebury is still taking kids off the waiting list right now, or if they are done with that? Unlike other colleges they haven’t been publishing articles about their yield and about the waiting list … is that the norm for Middlebury?

The articles usually appear in the Campus newspaper, but they haven’t put out an issue in the past two weeks due to final exams and commencement this weekend.

I am guessing The Campus is done for the year… However, perhaps something will come out in the news online that comes directly from admissions. I don’t recall that anything was ever published last year that said the class was done.

Is the waitlist still being used even though this board is dead?

It’s been 8 days since there’s been any activity on this thread.

Any updates from Middlebury guys? Whether via email, people offered spots, or articles online?

light, the best info that I can give you is that I was admitted last week. From what I could discern, I was part of one of the later groups that was contacted. I would call the admissions office and ask about the current status of their waitlist.

Last year people were admitted off the waiting list up through mid-june at least. I’m not sure if the same will be true this year.

The wait list is active! I got accepted this afternoon!
