**The Waitlisted-by-WashU-and-therefore-losing-all-hope-of-going-to-HYPS Club**

A candidate can always ask for a reasonable extension and ask about financial aid before making a decision.

The title of this thread is funny. And not totally accurate. Plenty of people from the WashU waitlist will get into HYPS. And plenty won't.

"FB lalaland,
You got in because you were qualified and did not need financial aid. That is patently obvious to all except the most die hard Wash.U. apologists.

I think the moral of the Wash.U. waitlist thread is that if you cannot pay cash and are not offered merit aid, they do not want you, except for a few rare exceptions and URM's."

Wow, this is wrong on so many levels.

Not needing aid and being qualified is certainly a plus in admissions, but it's not the end-all.

I'm far from rich, not a URM, have no merit scholarships, but I was accepted. I have plenty of rich, qualified friends who were waitlisted.

pokes thread title ahhhh this is how my friend and I feel!! haha

thank you, krock91! I'm tired of waitlisted people saying it was because they needed financial aid. I applied for fin aid and I got in.

Also, guys who applied to HYPSM and are now worried about those decisions: don't stress too much. Wash U is really weird about who they accept or reject (or waitlist in this case). My counselor also said that a ton of people get rejected from Wash U and then go onto to the Ivies.

If we did get accepted to WashU, what are our chances with HYPS?
Are they a lot/a little more selective?

*I was waitlisted for caltech.

whats cornell guaranteed transfer and likely letter?? i am an international applicant [india] & just like everyone here got waitlisted by WUSL but I applied with very little research & was wondering what these terms mean. do cornell applicants who are likely to be offered admission get a "likely letter"? when was it sent and what about those who did not receive one?

Cornell guaranteed transfer..
it's when cornell can't accept you for freshman yr but still wants you.
so they guaranteed to admit you after a year when you decides to transfer/come to Cornell.

i think......lol

likely letter is just an unofficial acceptance letter that tells you earlier than the official date
it's sent to small percentage of admitted ppl i think..to the top applicants

Joining the club today... :(
G'bye Cornell! Darthmouth! Duke!

I am definatly underqualified for WashU, and I got a waitlist...so happy!..

I have been rejected From Rice Early Decision and Notre Dame Early Action, with a 1470/2170, 3.8 unweighted, and a 4.2 weighted, my class rank is only top 20 percent...I was suprised I wasn't rejected...But all you guys have a great chance at HYPS, if you scared WashU into thinking you will get into better schools....

The waitlist gives me just a little hope for Emory and mabye Vanderbit....

ddp08228,

how do you compare Rice with Emory? I think you will be accepted by Emory

with your stats.

waitlisted, just like everyone else.

ACT 36
SAT I 2340
SAT II 790 780 760
GPA 4.0
NMF, Pres. Scholars Candidate, National Chemistry Olympiad Finalist, Pres. of NHS, 400+ hours community service, mostly from an annual church mission trip that ive been doing for five years, research internship, 3 yrs. varsity lacrosse.

It sucks getting waitlisted, especially as this ruins most of my hopes for my other schools im waiting to hear from (Harvard, Dartmouth, Penn, BC, JHU). I did apply for alot of financial aid which i dont know if that had an effect or not.

I got a likely letter from Yale (and a bunch of other good schools) and was accepted to WashU. This proves the opposite of what everyone else is saying--WashU doesn't necessarily waitlist "overqualified" (does that even apply to WashU???) students. I understand people want to make themselves feel better but bashing the school isn't a good response.

Also, I applied for financial aid and got in.

Post 172 is symbolically the thesis statement of our argument haha

i applied for financial aid and got in

I got waitlisted and so did my friend - joining the club. :P
OMG, everyone on here is so smart (SAT, AP, GPA scores..)
I'm definitely underqualified, but I still applied to Stanford, Yale, Brown, etc. T-T
I got accepted into USC but what's the point if I'm an international student and I can't pay (==> can't get a visa)? I can't apply for Stafford loans or w/e...

well, at least all the controversy over washu's desicions gives me something to do while i wait for all my other schools decisions....
and for those who got waitlisted, maybe u should call the office of admissions, or better yet, the specific admissions officer for your region, and ask them ur questions. most of the stuff on cc is speculation, and you'll probably get more direct answers from the admissions themselves.

Thanks for the encouragement nsrjsyt.

Anyone know the number of waitlisted applicants. I know WashU has 23,000 applications, and give around 5060 applicantions(22 Percent acceptance rate), but anyone know the number of waitlists, I don't see a single person rejected....I am guessing around another 3000 waitlists? Is that a valid guess?

And to people that were waitlisted, I am sure that you will get into some great schools, because most you have amazing stats...Good Luck..

I meant acceptances instead of "applicantions" (bad typo)
