Isn’t the author the same reporter who wrote “20 Colleges Worth the Price,” also in The Daily Beast? I think this piece is marred by the same kind of sloppy writing/reporting. It reads like a list of blind items from a gossip column. “An Ivy League admissions officer said …”; “A Boston college admissions officer said …” With no attributions, she could have invented, or embellished, a lot of these quotes. Not much of an "expos

Only if they have an audience.

I agree that this article is unbelievable crap. Didn’t someone link to another one of this website’s pieces a few weeks ago. Same idiotic m.o. Twenty anonymous sources. Maybe even the same writer. What a joke.

I’m not worried about well-edited newspapers dying and being replaced by stuff like this, which is probably worse. For the most part the fact checking on the quality Internet sites is light years ahead of print journalism. Try instapundit if you want a good example.

I think I’ll sign up as a Daily Beast member just to comment on this reporter. Hadn’t noted the link to all the other drivel.

Go get 'em Hmom!!! You are just the one to argue any crap being served. Set the man straight!

Agree with others–who has the $$ to bribe his or her way in?

This link was previously submitted, and I noted that Daily Beast was a junk source the last time it was posted.

Yes. I remember this author from the story a few weeks ago.

Notice I say “author,” not “reporter.” The difference is “blog” vs. “news.”

A blog by its very nature is just one person’s perspective. MAYBE it’s based in fact. MAYBE it’s pure opinion. In either case, it should not be taken as verifiable and credible.

Hear. Hear. There is no journalism in that blog at all.

ellemenope,
The article may be poorly written and not worth a darn, but it is still true that there are people out there who have enough $$$ left to finesse their child into whatever school they prefer. I know of four families who have done this already and two that are planning on doing so in 2010. Yes, they have lost millions, but still have great wealth and it’s a legitimate charitable contribution for them.

And we have made it quite clear that we just don’t play in the same league as these folks, so DS#2 knows he must get in on his own attributes.

I think we have several regular posters here on CC who are much more qualified to write meaningful articles than this person…any volunteers?!

I did write The Daily Beast suggesting it’s time for a more competent reporter on their education beat. Get those resumes in!
