Hello! Wellesley is currently my top choice for next year (I was accepted RD) and I just had some additional questions about the theater department before I commit for sure. I have done theater, especially musical theater, my whole life and am hoping to double major in theater at Wellesley. Here are the questions that I have:
How many shows/musicals does the theater department put on per year? How difficult is it for freshman to get cast?
How do the shows work with no guys at the school? Are guys from the surrounding area/ other colleges cast in Wellesley shows?
Can students from Wellesley perform in the shows at Babson/Olin/Brandeis? Is this common?
How does the Shakespeare society work? Do you have to live in that house or can you be a part of the Shakespeare productions without being in the Shakespeare society?
Thank you in advance for your help!!
You’ll probably get more answers if you post these questions in the Wellesley Class of 2022 Facebook group. Even better, you may want to reach out the the theatre department director here: https://www.wellesley.edu/theatre/faculty/hussey
@3puppies Of course I realize that, but I wasn’t sure if that was done for all of the roles or if they cast guys from outside the college, since I know both are fairly common practices at women’s colleges and so I wasn’t sure which category Wellesley fell into. I also know of some schools that just cast a few guys and have the rest of the male characters played by women, so I was just wondering what the practices were at Wellesley since they do differ.
