Theater/Drama Colleges Part 11

OK--For those looking at their Rutgers Status--just go down to the Application Status section. It says "college applied to" and "semester" and "applicant status." Under the last heading you may see the status--"admitted" or "not admitted." Or, it will be blank for now.

Rutgers- Mason Gross.
I checked my d's status page and under "applicant status" it says "not admitted". But her friend says that is what her application status said until it changed to admitted when she received her acceptance letter. Don't know what to think? Any thoughts?

Weird. I guess you just don't know until the letter comes.

Hey, congrats to everybody im new on this site and was recently accepted into NYU, CMU, north carolina school of the arts, and SUNY purchase, and am still waiting on Boston. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on where i should go
thank you

Unmekidd, my D's experience was that her status page said 'In Process" until it changed to "Not Admitted" for her app to Rutgers SAS. she got her rejection letter about 2 weeks later. Now she's waiting to hear from Mason Gross (where she really wants to get in) for the BFA Production Mgmt. and it says "Pending Talent Audition." which was her portfolio review from mid Feb. I hope your experience is different, though. Good luck!

Wow congrats Dan!! Those are awesome schools! Question though: When did you audition for NYU and SUNY Purchase? And for both CMU and Purchase, were you given callbacks (or rather, at CMU, did you see another professor besides your original one)? Thanks! :D

I auditioned at SUNY (no callback) and NYU probably like in.... early february? Not positive though. For CMU i went to a man first and then was asked for a third monologue and a new take on a different one. Then i was told to stay and see the lady next door. The lady was much more difficult and when i was finished she asked me to do multiple improvisations with her.

rb123 what is rutgers sas? well this is disappointing news if what you say is so. my d's friend said that "not admitted" is what is said on her admissions status till it changed over to admitted and she received her acceptance. whatever is meant to be is..... Has anyone been called yet from SUNY PURCHASE drama? DanKennett you had no callback with SUNY Purchase and you received a call that you were accepted? That is wonderful news and a big congrats. May i ask when you received your phone call?

Dan: Are you going for musical theatre or straight acting? Do you prefer an urban area or a rural area? Is expense/financial aid a consideration? Are travel expenses a consideration? What was your gut reaction to each of the programs, the campus, and the student body (possibly the most important thing)? All those things can help in the decision-making process. Congrats on the wonderful acceptances - you are obviously talented and will no doubt do well no matter where you go.

Just as a funny note - my son is now four years past the audition process - and he STILL hasn't heard from Rutgers! :) He did an unplanned walk-in at Unifieds and they asked him to apply, so he did the whole application/write the essay process, paid the application fee, and then waited. Everytime he would check the web it would say something was missing - many phone calls ensued back and forth, even paid the application fee twice and submitted everything again - and they still would say something was missing on the website, but phone calls would say they had everything. He NEVER DID hear anything! Obviously he just accepted somewhere else and he had really just auditioned for Rutgers on a whim anyway so it wasn't a big deal. The point being - I'm not sure how accurate their website news might be - I'd call to make sure everything was in place, although that obviously didn't help in my son's case. Don't know to this day what the problem was or what the final decision would have been!

SAS is the School of Arts and Sciences. My d applied there as a backup for a BA in Theatre but really prefers the BFA that Mason Gross offers. I would call admissions to make sure. For your d's sake, I hope I'm wrong but that was her experience. Frankly, it was me checking her status page all the time so I can tell you that it did initally say In Process and then changed to Not Admitted. My d wasn't too upset because she really wants a BFA-she did get accepted to other programs but she's waiting for the decision from Mason Gross. It is a highly competitive program. I believe they only take a handful of students each year for their Production Management course. Purchase is also very, very competitive. My d did not get into Purchase.

hey, yea i got an e-mail a few days ago, my audition was really screwed up tho (they had mailed me the wrong date). So i had to go to like 5 different faculty members doing three monologues for all of them. I didn't really like SUNY, it was too unorganized (and cold) for me. At this point in time i think i'm leaning towards North Carolina School of the Arts. Their faculty and students were amazing and really nice

As far as SUNY's acceptence went it was really just like, we're sorry about everything that happened but i hope that wont deter you from going here. blah blah blah
so i dont think they've sent anyhting official yet

D. accepted to U.of Utah for acting!!

Letsfig- thanks for Rutgers info. Still no indication of acceptance on the website. Mason G. was a walk-in in Chicago and soon afterward, D. did get a letter asking her to apply to university, we enjoyed meeting you, etc. Is that a good sign??....or just a nice letter???

DanK- congrats on all the great acceptances! You have some great choices.

Also got an acceptance to Utah for acting as well :)

holly, congrats to your daughter!

thoroughlymodern, did they tell you guys at Minnesota/Guthrie when to expect to hear something?

Well, I didn't hear anything for sure about when acceptance calls were being made but last year my friends found out within about a week or two of callbacks, so Ken Washington could be making calls any time now...

As far as waitlist and rejection letters, I believe those will be sent out slightly later, probably closer to April 1st unfortunately.

thoroughlym- Congrats back at you! Do you know much about Utah? D. had a good feel about the audition and the folks in Chicago were very nice. D. is transfer and they do require a 4 year commitment.

A very good friend of my son's was notified today that she has been accepted at Guthrie. Both of them are out of town this weekend for a thespian event so I don't know the details, my son texted me this morning to give me the news. He is thrilled for her (as it is one of her top choices) and is waiting on pins and needles to hear anything about his status now.

My son was accepted to Syracuse for Stage Management today. We are all thrilled!!!
