I never took Drama in High School. I am interested in it now that I am in college though. Would I totally be lost (because I have no background) if I took an Acting I class at my Community College?

If it is not an audition based class, you will probably find that you are not the only one with little or no experience. Give it a shot; if you don't, you may later regret denying yourself the opportunity to explore something that could excite you. If after you read the course description you still have some doubts, stop in and see the professor or department head to have any questions answered.

I've worked the majority of my teaching career in a school that had a liberal arts based theatre program. Many students took theatre classes - from acting to design - for the first time in college. Many took them because they looked interesting. Of those, most had a grand time, learned how to do many things that will help them in life, and moved on. But several are working actors and designers right now, including one on B'way. (She started out as a Poli-sci major who thought an acting class would help her be a better future lawyer!) Go for it!

I have decided to sign up. I'm also going to talk to the department head. Thanks for all the ideas and support!
