Theatre and Drama at Oberlin

I'm looking for a good theatre program that requires no audition to be a part of. First of all, does one need an audition to be apart of the Oberlin theatre department? How many student run theatre/drama organizations are there?

Where does this program with theatre rank in relation to Brown, Vassar, and Amherst?

I can't answer these questions, but I do have one relevant data point.

During one of my visits I spoke with a dorm-mate of my daughter's who was heavily into theater there.

She said that she loved the theater program at Oberlin. It was much better than she even expected. There were numerous performance opportunities. She couldn't be happier. So she told me.

There is no audition required for the theatre major. I haven't seen any rankings of the specific program itself. But there's a few big mainstage productions every year, and then a bazillion student-run ones. OSTA (Oberlin Students Theatre Association) is the big one. And then there's a bunch of improv groups/shows, & a gilbert & sullivan players i believe. But yeah. I think that about covers it.

There is no audition required for theater at Northwestern, and it is easily one of the top programs in the country. Also, look into Northwestern's Performance Studies program. Of course NU is quite hard to get into academically.
