Anyone know what kind of theatre facilities they have? What the quality of their productions is?

I've devoted a great deal of time and committment to theatre in high school, and being able to do it in college could help me discern whether I want to take the plunge into a theatrical career (in design or production).

which is a pretty big deal. One should remember that the vast majority of theater people at Chicago are not going to go on to be professionals-- they are your political science majors, anthropology majors, biology majors, etc. who do theater for fun. That said, the quality of productions is impressive.

You might also want to check out Court Theater, which is on our campus but not officially affiliated with the University.

It isn't that large, but there is definitely a corps of dedicated students whose ambition is to have a career in theater, and who are moving in that direction. You can find them at the University Theater (along with the bio majors blowing off steam), in the TAPS major, working with theaters large and small around the city. Also doing film around the university, with Fire Escape Films.

If you poke around the various university websites, you'll find lots of evidence of theatrical life. It's not as spiffy and professional as at Northwestern, or Michigan, or Carnegie-Mellon (or USC or NYU-Tisch, etc.), and it isn't as broad-based as at Yale, but it's definitely there.

Note that the next big building on the agenda at Chicago, but probably not for a few years, is a new arts center with much better theatrical facilities. The UT facilities now are not so impressive.

Ahh wow! Thanks guys. I was trying to find the University Theater website, the link I kept being referred to was broken. Any word on whether that construction timeline for the Performing Arts center is still current given the economy? I'm a 2013 hopeful, and a brand new performing arts center right in the middle of my time at Chicago would be awesome!
