Theatre Education Degree with MT and Dance Classes

Hello,
I am currently a freshman at Kent State University in Theatre Performance. I want to teach Theatre as a career and I don’t think Kent is going to give me what I need so I’ve been thinking about transfering. I was wondering if people could steer me into a program of Theatre Education where I can still take MT and Dance classes because I still have passions for those and would like to teach Musical Theatre to children. I’m from the Ohio area so anywhere in Ohio or close to Ohio would be ideal.
Thank you!

Try asking this question in the MT forum. There are some wonderful people over there that may be able to answer your question. Good luck

At SUNY Fredonia (New York but near Lake Erie, so you can take I-90 straight there, and also offers some scholarship money to out of state students), I don’t think there’s a theater education major, but you could do a BA in theater and pair it with an education major, or if you don’t want to teach theater in an official public school, you could do their dance studio management interdisciplinary minor that teaches you how to run a studio of your own in conjunction with the theater arts major.

University of Utah offers that but that is kind of far. I just saw another school with that degree a BFA in theatre education. Will have to search which one and will post if I find it

Update. It was Belmont in Nashville. Also see Emerson offers it and so does Drake in Iowa. Drake has an MT degree too so you could probably take classes in that area too.

James Madison in Northwestern VA has a BA in Theatre with a Concentration in Theatre Education. Student in the progam can take dance, voice, and some musical theatre classes.
