Theatre Major at Tufts

Anybody have knowledge of the quality of the theatre department at Tufts and where it rates vs other top universities?

Our theatre department is great. I'm not a theatre major but I've worked on several of the shows and have taken several classes and haven't been disappointed at all.

The theatre department is very productive. I'll never understand how you people do it (especially those science students who do it on the side!).

When I applied to Tufts I didn't know about the quality of the theatre department at Tufts. A rep from Conn College came to my high school and told me that it wasn't that great and Conn's was better. Obviously, I ignored her and never bothered to apply...though they kept trying to get to do so.

When I finally arrived on campus, I was dabbling in different things, but was quick to learn that the theatre department at Tufts was truly something special. There are so many opportunites and there is so much to do that its bordering suicidal stress levels, though its great fun. The faculty are AMAZING because theres an incredibly strong sense of community and theyre all VERY intelligent. However, no matter how good a friend you are with the professor, they will make sure you do ALL the work that needs to be done...and thats a lot im surprisingly happy to say.

In terms of comparison with other top univ, its up there. The last Theatre ranking, done by Gourmon Report I think, placed Tufts in the top 10 with Yale, Northwestern etc. Now, rankings shouldn't be the deciding factor. Once you arrive and begin to get your hands dirty with the department, you'll realize what I've been rambling on about.

I would recommend you visit. Good Luck.
P.S. Snuffles...we live in Aidekman. Thats the secret. Even when we're not working, we're in there. OH...and lots of caffeine...and intravenous drugs...jk.

Is it possible to double major in theater and something else?

Absolutely. You can double-major in just about anything at Tufts, and it's definitely doable. Off the top of my head, I had friends who double-majored in drama with second majors in poli sci, English and biology.
