I’m hoping to double major in theatre and education at William and Mary. What are both programs like?
Hi blackbird,
Sorry that no one has gotten back to you on this question yet. The theater major at William and Mary is very multifaceted, which means it includes more than just traditional acting. It will include acting, stagecraft, design (sound, lighting, scene, sound), history, dance, and even directing. You’ll get to take on multiple roles as you understand each part of the process of theater. Practicum is a major part of the theater major as you apply what you have learned to major productions with a faculty mentor. Some even go as far as to complete a self-designed honors thesis.
I’ve had the great pleasure of witnessing two honors theses in theater by William and Mary students and they were nothing short of incredible. One was a self-written one man show about identity and the other was a play (also self written) addressing the potent issue of character and mental health. Like I said, spectacular work
Education is a secondary major at WM. I’m not as familiar with it but I’d take a look here (http://education.wm.edu/admissions/undergraduate/secondmajor/) There is also the 5 year masters of education plan if you are so inclined. The School of Education is just a few blocks down the road.
Best of luck! Hope to see you in the fall
