There is Hope!

Well, some of you may have been following my sudden stressful plight as I began to freak out about Whitman and my chances there and everything else. In the shuffle, I all but gave up on one of my applications but, good news has come through.

I was accepted to Reed.

Now, this is sort of unexpected. Reed was the most competitive school I applied to (although I know it isn't NEAR what other schools are like) and I sort of threw in my app at the very last second. Like, literally. I never interviewed. I never visited. I didn't even take any of the SAT II's (which are "highly recommended"). Plus, I swear everything possible has gone wrong with my Reed App. Tons of things have gone missing and I was convinced it was over. So, when I opened my e-mail box and saw an e-mail saying there was "something with my application" I went crazy. "Great!" I thought angrily. "I wonder what I messed up now.

Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. :D

Whitneylm,

CONGRATULATIONS on this wonderful and unexpected news!!!!!!! How ironic...just when it seemed like everything went wrong that could go wrong, the most important thing went RIGHT! I am so happy that you received such fantastic news today. Enjoy! And again, congrats!!!!!!!!!! ~berurah

Wow, how exciting for you after all of that turmoil! Reed is a great school, one we seriously considered for our son (who would rather be further away from home than the west coast, so he didn't apply). I'm excited for you!

I don't recall if I have read anything about your search, but that is a very nice acceptance. It is quite a notch above Whitman academically, don't you think? But still, if I were you, I'd stop and consider which is best for you. Reed is known to be very high stress, from what I hear. Still sounds like a great school to me, if it is the right academic temperament for you.

Congrats!

I'm a freshman history major at Reed, if you have any questions I can either answer them here or via PM.

Again, congrats.

Whitney:

Congratulations! Some of the most academically accomplished people I know graduated from Reed. Wonderful.

Whitney, congratulations!! Reed is a great school.

congratulations- my daughter will be a senior 2005-2006
as her sisters friends would say " It's filthy"
( that is apparently a good thing as far as I can tell)

great news! Your experience says it all about this crazy process. Congratulations.

Whitney,

Way to go with Reed. Are they giving you enough aid to make going there possible, or are you still looking elsewhere?

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support!

BassDad: In all honesty, I was CONVINCED that Reed was just a dream because I'd heard they gave really scanty aid packages to freshman. And, since I was so convinced I'd hardly get into the school, I was sure that if I did I'd get no aid. However, I got my aid package and it had a really nice grant (13,000$) and a subsidized loan (all my others have been unsubsidized). So, its still spendy but this totally went and put it in the ball park for me. So, more good news there. I'm still waiting to hear from Whitman, but now I'll probably be visiting Reed to see how much of a fit it is. :D

Congratulations!

Well done!! I remember from your Whitman vs. safety posts that you are pretty intellectual and Reed is definitely that. Are your folks on board for Whitman or Reed by now?
