Chance me for a few schools please? :)

SAT I (breakdown): Taking it soon but definitely won't be as good as ACT, which I hope won't count against me.
ACT: 34 (35E/34R/34M/34S)
SAT II: 700 USH, 720 Lit, will take physics and maybe math II in the fall
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.78 :/ Straight A's 1st semester freshman year and all of junior year, counselor will explain family situations that messed things up 2nd semester freshman year and sophomore year but I don't know if that will help or not.
Weighted GPA: 3.99/4.33
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10%
AP (place score in parenthesis): US History pending
Senior Year Course Load: honors everything (school doesn't offer APs) except advanced journalism. Have consistently taken toughest courses offered.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): 1 national finalist award, 1 state championship, 1 sectional championship, 1 sectional runner-up, and 1 regional honorable mention award... all in journalism

Extracurriculars: SADD (Member 9, Officer 10-11, VP 12), NHS (Juniors inducted if they have a 3.5+ GPA, hopefully Pres 12), Newspaper (Reporter 10-11, Sports/Design Editor 12), Contributor to national high school sports magazine (10-12), Student Council (Class Secretary 10-11), Spanish Honor Society (10-12), freshman orientation program emcee/leader (10-12)

Sports: JV Cross Country and Track (11); Varsity Cross Country and Track (12)

Volunteer/Community service: Relay for Life team captain 10-12
Organized a 5k to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society

Currently no work experience but I am actively looking for a job so that could change.

Summer Activities: Summer-long cross country camp 10-12

Teacher recommendations will probably be good but generic because my school is HUGE and there's really no teacher/student interaction outside of class. Counselor rec should be really good though.

State (if domestic applicant): IL

Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: ~100,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing besides community service involvement, which most people will have. :/
Intended major: Psychology

I plan on applying to: Bowdoin College! (probably ED), Stanford University (yikes), UNC Chapel Hill (OOS), U Michigan Ann Arbor (OOS), Notre Dame, and U Illinois as a safety.

Chances definitely appreciated! :)

I think that you have a good shot at Bowdoin, and applying ED will help even more. It’s still a 50/50 shot - everything is at a school like Bowdoin - but you’re certainly a qualified and competitive applicant.

For the other schools -
Stanford - crapshoot. You’re qualified, but unfortunately, so are the thousands of other applicants they get…it’s just a numbers game.
UNC - hard to get in OOS, but I think you can do it. Somewhat of a reach only because you’re OOS.
Michigan - I think this is a match - you have a good shot here.
Notre Dame - high match/low reach - again, it’s really competitive because it has so many applicants, but I think you have a great shot.
Illinois - I’m pretty sure you’ll get in.

I know you love Bowdoin, but it seems like all of the other schools to which you’re applying are big universities, which are really different from Bowdoin. Out of curiosity, have you looked at any other LACs? If you love Bowdoin, you might really like similar LACs like Amherst, Carleton, or Pomona.

I like LACs and universities just about equally, even though they are entirely different. They both have certain aspects that I like and dislike, and I think I could be happy in either environment. I don’t know how to explain why I was so drawn to Bowdoin above all other LACs, but the best I can do is say that it just gave me this tingly feeling that it was “the one.” I have never been so excited or passionate about wanting to go to a school before.

All three of those LACs and a couple more are on the potential list (especially Pomona but I don’t think I have any real chance of getting in). I did not start looking into LACs until much later than I started looking into universities, though, so I suspect that the final list I apply to will trade in a couple of the universities currently on it for some LACs as I find out more about them. I see by your location you’re headed to Carleton- it is a phenomenal school and I’m sure you’ll love it there.

Thank you so much for your chances though! I really appreciate it.
