Dude, why are you obsessed with the West Coast?..I live in in the mid-west and I'm not obsessed with it...and Ohio isn't considered "east coast" (it's in the midwest)

"Don't hate on the west coast! Whites in California score the highest on the SAT math by about 30 points compared to all other states! We don't sit around thinkin about you guys! We don't make lies about the east coast to make ourselves feel better!"

That's pure insanity right there...do you have problems? Seriously, what is wrong with you?

^ Its true. Whites in california do better on the SAT Math than any other state. I think its because of the air here, California culture, the lower blood pressure of people here in general, and the diversity brings out the best in people. You simply wouldnt understand my friend. =D

All kidding aside this following box is the real reason this discussion keeps on getting sidetracked.

BTW, regional politics aside, try to address my points next time buddy. Research wise ( which is the only legitimate way to compare international universities), non US universities are conducting more and more groundbreaking research. Perhaps visa restrictions are the reason a lot of those top professors can't get recruited here. Regardless, my point is that improving research, prestige, and reputation of international schools is making it easier and easier for students to opt out of the US university "standard" when it comes to assessing their most important asset, their education.

What does the SAT have to do with anything? It's bad enough to measure college admissions on it let alone the quality of a region! That's sad. So basically you're saying the west coast is better than the east coast because some 17 year-old kid scores higher than other 17 year-olds? For being an "investment banker" you sure don't use very much analytical thinking.

And you are the most diverse state in the world, huh? WOW, you try way too hard. Could you please direct me to a list of the states of the world.

And if you don't sit around thinking about us, then why did you bring up the topic of which coast is better? Seems to me that requires at least some thought. The east coast has THE most important city in the world: New York. This isn't even arguable.

lol

i think West coast = east coast

both rock!!!!!!!

i mean: UCB has WORLD-WIDE reputation. I used to live in Beijing, there're over 10,000,000 population there, almost everyone knows Berkeley, harvard, yale, princeton, cornell and MIT and stanford. and like maybe 300 ppl know about Northwestern U. (290 out of the 300 people assume NU has something to do w/ agriculture, since it's on neither coast), same thing w/ Shanghai and other asians nations. For europe, UCB is really F***king famous, it's THE school for scientists and engineers, most of u guys who think UCB sucks probably have never lived/"effectively" communicated with ppl outside of U.S.

However, that UMASS crap is weird...

but berkeley is good, if EVERY person in theis world votes for the best colleges, berkeley will be in top 10 definitely. and other good schools like Vanderbilt will be in like top 50

so thom yorke is basing how good a college is upon how many chinese peasants know about it?
Living in san francisco, I would say that even teh vast majority of students at San Francisco State Univ. and SF City College have never heard of NU either... but I bet at least 95% of students at UCSF, and 100% of profs. have.

He is just saying that the prestige of a university can be global, if it is good enough. Thats all. No need to bag on peasants. There is a significant disparity among the poor and rich in China. And it is not along racial lines like it is in the United States.

no, TheCity, i think thom yorke's main point is that internationals may be a better judge of prestige because within the US people would be subject to geographic bias, just like you pointed out with UCSF.

Yeah well a lot of people have heard about McDonalds too. Doesn't mean they make the best hamburgers.

Prestige is not everything. Also world renown research does not equal a great undergraduate program. Nor a great graduate program either, if the research isn't in your specialty area.

Berkeley is good because the Chinese say it is? Wow, just when I thought this thead had gotten bad. Here's how much I care about what the Chinese think of our schools:

0

So you're basically saying I'm a better judge of schools in China than the Chinese are? I've never been to China just as 90% of them haven't even ever been to the United States.

you did it with east coast rap (rap was more than about sex sex sex
..Sex eh? hmmmm

you did it with baseball
just baseball, or baseball and sex, or is baseball code for sex.

you tried to do it with media in LA
..with the media too!?

( god, everyone hates New York attitude and New York media, all it does is make everyone's life more miserable
...........Have you considered that you are just an angry person; few women find anger to be a romantic quality
.just trying to help.

and we don't want the evil east Coast to come anywhere near our state ever again.
..FYI, Paranoia is also a turn off for most of us.

with your stagnant politics, how dare you.
..insanity is also a bit of a negative.

its time to let go of the reins and let this country rise from the ashes again, Mr. East Coaster.
.hallelujah brother! This is all very logical though, really, not very endearing.

Don't hate!
.in other words do as I say not as I do

Whites in California score the highest on the SAT math
funny, I always thought of California as a very multicultural place, in fact, I have it on good authority that California is the most diverse state in the world, and [
.] the true face of America!

We don't make lies about the east coast to make ourselves feel better!
.please tell me you feel better after all of your non-lies about the east coast.
