<p>High school is about "increasing the izzat", as E.M. Forster put it. The people who are focused on class are not normal high schoolers...they are something in between adults and high-schoolers.</p>
<p>Even if you do pay attention in class there is probably someone in the class you find attractive or like or w/e so you spend your time looking and/or thinking about them, it's pretty funny.</p>
