My daughter has been accepted to Willamette. She likes the college but does not much care for Salem. She's under the impression that there is little to do on the weekends. Had anyone here researched this?

D is a sophomore at Willamette and really finds so much to do on campus she seems to have seen less of Salem than I did when I took her up for orientation 2 summers ago. There may not be too much to do in Salem but with the beach, mountains and Portland all about 1 hour away, there is plenty to do.

That's what I was going to say. If your D is outdoorsey she will find plenty of stuff for the weekend. She really outght to check out the student clubs that are offered to see what appeals to her and perhaps email the contact people to see how active they are. I will ge going to Willamette in a couple of weeks and will post a visit report when I get back. Be forwarned though we are country people and Salem may seem like more to us than it would to you or your D

Well, we visited last week and had a lovely day visiting nearby wineries.

OK, maybe not what you'd want to recommend to a college freshman....

The Ram is across the street...kind of a brew pub. Sorry that was the only thing we saw. I don't know if there are under 21 clubs or not but you could easily search that if it is what she is in to. Another option is to try looking at Willamette on campusdirt.com. There are quotes about "Typical Saturday Night" activities. On the tour it did seem like there would be an active on-campus life on the weekends as Willamette is all about the community.
