I've finally narrowed it down to these two. The specs are as follows:

Thinkpad T530: ($1,121.12)
3rd gen Intel Core i5-3320M
HD Display of 1600x900
Intel HD Graphics 4000
8GB RAM (2 DIMM-not sure what that means. Taking up 2 slots?)
Chiclet back-lit keyboard
1 TB harddrive 5400rpm

Sony Vaio Series S: ($1,019.99)
3rd gen Intel Core i5-3320M
HD Display of 1920x1080
Intel HD Graphics 4000
8GB RAM (4GB fixed + 4GB removable)
Chiclet back-lit keyboard
1TB harddrive 5400rpm

I don't game so I don't need to upgrade to the NVIDIA graphics card and I also would rather have i5 instead of i7 processor.

What I really like about the Thinkpad is that I know for sure that it's going to be reliable and durable. What I like about the Sony is that it has a better resolution and it has better aesthetics. I know aesthetics really shouldn't matter but I just don't think I'd be completely happy with the blocky design of the Thinkpad as opposed to the sleek design of the Vaio but if the Vaio is really fragile I'd definitely go for the Thinkpad. The problem is that I've heard some say the Vaio S is fragile while others say it's durable.

Also, I was going to initially plunge for the Vaio but I read about reds showing up as orange on the screen. I'm also worried that the Vaio S isn't going to last as long as the Thinkpad will in terms of durability. I'm not that tough on my computers; I don't necessarily download many things or have multiple programs up at once, which is why I don't need the i7.

Anyways, I was just trying to look for opinions because I really need to buy a laptop soon because my current one is terrible (Toshiba. Overheats and shuts down, I've had it for about 5 years) and I don't want to do anything serious on it since I don't want to be doing something important and it shutting down all of sudden.

Any opinions would be really, greatly appreciated!
