Wait, TEACHERS specify which schools their letters go to? STUDENTS do not control which recommendation(s) go to which schools?

Students on the common app are supposed to assign^

On Naviance, students have no control over where the LORs go. It goes without saying that the same folks who own the CA(stupid folks) also own Naviance. I think I read that they also own college confidential.

If the high school uses Naviance, and if the student uses Common Application, then the only person who has control over which colleges get the recommendation letters is the teacher. In the link it, I posted above, it shows how the teacher can specify this. He/she can upload his/her letter for a specific college in Naviance or to all colleges the student has listed in the Naviance at that time. I also believe, if a student adds a new college to the list in Naviance /Commonapp after the teacher submits the recommendation letter then that college doesn’t get the letter automatically.

There doesn’t seem to be a way for the student to specify which teacher’s letter, in Common app or in Naviance if your high school uses Naviance.

So, it doesn’t appear that there is a way for students to control this.

Please correct me if someone knows otherwise!

Thanks jasmineRose! That is consistent with what we heard at college night tonight at the HS.

Students can check in CA to see how many teacher letters a school requires and allows, and then they need to speak directly to their recommenders, to make sure each one understands which schools the student would like them to submit to.

I like it MUCH better with DS’11 when we just did the assignment in CA!!
