In every class I take, I always have to work extra hard, take things one more step than the other students in my classes. I don't have an academic class that I'm good at. I have read, read, read, read, do practice problems and more practice problems so I can achieve at least a B on a test. I envy the students who absolutely do not study and understand everything and and excel. If I'm struggling this much in high school, I say to myself, "What's college going to be like then?" I worked my tail off studying and doing practice problems for a week for a precalculus test and got a C. In AP Chemistry, I read the assigned chapter everyday for 2 weeks and did extra problems for the test and got a F. What's frustrating is, that no matter what I do, or how hard I work, I don't get anywhere. It's almost a waste a time.

This was on my mind for awhile now, and I've talked to my counselor about it too. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but this is happening too often, too often.

You’re overreacting. Just schedule a meeting with a teacher. You have no idea how helpful that can be.

maybe you’re taking classes that are just too fast paced for you. my junior year I started taking Advanced Math (which is honors pre-calc). The teacher moved too quickly and gave us homework THEN taught us how to do the problems so I was failing miserably. I couldn’t work with her teaching style and needed more time to grasp the concepts so I moved down to CP pre-calc and received a 97. You could always ask your teachers for extra help or try to devise a plan that will work more for you. I’m not saying you’re the same as me. It sounds like you’re on track with your work whereas I was not. I’m just saying there has to be a solution out there. Try to pinpoint exactly why you aren’t doing as well as your work suggests you could be.

Perhaps you should use a different study resource, like a new chemistry textbook. There are textbooks that have convoluted explanations that hinder your understanding - you may be using one of these.
