oh studious, you won’t live that one down.
i hate how radiohead’s become the property of hipsters. i like them, but not excessively so. some stuff out there is so much better.

Radiohead is wrongly seen as property of “hipsters.” Please. Do you honestly think a band who’s been around since the 80’s and has millions of fans on Facebook and Twitter is associated with an inferior subculture that only listens to what “hasn’t been listen to yet?”

Also, if you want to get in the “mood”, listen to Otis Redding and Al Green. I’m a sucker for old-school soul (not proud to say that).

YEAH OTIS REDDING AND AL GREEN. They’re fantastic.
I think I’m stuck in a kind of late 60s-early 70s musical era, and everything just sounds weak when you compare it to Hendrix. But I just re-listened to Radiohead. I think their old stuff was better - I just can’t get over the whining (–> vampire weekend!)

I was once going somewhere and I had NPR on, and they were interviewing some British guy, but I can’t remember his name. He sang songs that were quick, 1970 - 1980’s style, and had kind of a light hearted tone to it. I know that this is a very very ambiguous description, but would anyone know an artist like that?

Okay, this is an extremely late response, but last weekend I was listening to NPR, and they interviewed Noel Gallagher, the song-writer and guitarist from Oasis, which seems to somewhat fit your description. Although they are the quintessential 90’s band IMO, they also took inspiration from the Beatles, Smiths, Pistols, etc., so there is some 70’s/80’s-ishness to them.
