This Is Us. Anyone watching?

@3sonsmom Thanks for the movie suggestion. Last year there was a movie called Echo in the Canyon, a documentary on the music there in the '60s. It didn’t quite get up to Joni’s time, which was disappointing, especially since one of her early albums is called Ladies of the Canyon.

I didn’t have a clue about Pamela Adlon until they revealed her face at the end.

@youdon’tsay, I’m so sorry about your dad.

Loved this episode. In addition to agreeing with many of the comments above, I loved the way Beth communicated her worries and that Randall went back to therapy. And we guessed who the therapist was too – such a distinctive voice she has!

I didn’t agree with the Rebecca/Kevin doctors appointment. If they called the doctor’s office and confirmed they could be seen the next day, what would the harm be in finding out results one day later? Rebecca was so happy and wanted their fun to continue. Not that it was bad they went the same day, of course…I’m finding that, as my relatives are getting older (fortunately, no alzheimer diagnoses but definitely dementia) I’m realizing what’s important: find joy when you can. Delaying something by an hour or even a day doesn’t really matter in the long run. Of course, this is a TV show and that would have fed into the “irresponsible Kevin” issue so I get why Kevin didn’t want to delay.

I also love when they throw in a scene that shows a character over the years like they did with Jack last night. And I was go glad that Kate came around as I thought she was being unreasonably harsh with Toby. Allowing Toby to have his worries, share his worries and come around on his own timing was fair. I’m hopeful they’re back on better footing. I do wonder how they have any income, though, since neither ever seem to reference work but they seem financially able to lead a life of relative luxury.

Toby works in tech, from what I recall.

I particularly loved the scenes between Kevin and his mom, both as a child and adult son.

@3sonsmom - I am dating myself, but I have, and love that Crosby, Stills and Nash album (and others) and Joni Mitchell albums. Love them!

Here’s a little factoid: Before Crosby stills and Nash asked Neil young to join them, they first asked John Sebastian (who had left the lovin spoonful and gone solo). He declined. Guess his biggest claim to fame was writing the theme song to welcome back kotter.

Interesting that had Kevin pulled a Kevin and skipped the appointment, Randall likely would have been upset (he predicted Kevin would mess it up while talking with the therapist). No doubt Randall would have taken her to the appointment. But given that Kevin did the right thing (at least the more responsible thing and given during the episode we saw Kevin acting for himself when he was younger maybe the thing he thought was best for his mom), Kevin and Randall are still heading toward a split.

No doubt it wouldn’t have mattered if they skipped the appointment and gotten the results the next day (or even the next week). But maybe Kevin was trying to Rebecca not to view the results as the end. She still is his mom and has a lot of life still to live.

I’ve missed some things. Is Kevin having a relationship with Madison or did they just hook up that once?

They hooked up that once.

As they showed Jack’s progression in music, I thought grown up Jack looked very much like Milo in profile.

Loved the whole episode, but especially Beth quietly steering Randall back to therapy and Kevin buying the baseball card he would have lost in the fire to commemorate a special day in his childhood with Rebecca.

^^Ditto …I liked the scenes above and I also liked the scene over lunch where Madison’s talks to Kate about giving Toby a break. It gave me a more favorable impression of Madison.

I think the show is off next week because of Super Tuesday, so we won’t know more until March 10.

Anyone else hum “My House” today??!

I have no idea who Pamela Adlon is - but I did look her up. I knew from the minute he walked in the therapist office that they weren’t showing her face for a reason. I’ll be honest with the dark hair I thought the therapist was going to be the woman from the coffee shop that Kevin met who was married.

Wow, I cried like a baby at the end of this show. That music. Those scenes showing Jack growing up with music. Randall using running as a release of his anxiety (my son has some anxiety and I think running helps him too). ALL. OF. IT.

And Beth. And her fears.

Just stellar these last couple episodes.

I’m missing the significance of Pamela Adlon playing the role of the therapist and them not showing her until the end. Can someone fill me in?

@adigel, besides her being apparently a famous actress, I would like to know myself!

Again, I SWORE it was the woman that Kevin spent the day with a while back!!!

I just Googled Pamela Adlon and I’m still not familiar with any of her work. But I was relieved to find out that a number of people (besides me) thought she was Janeane Garafalo.

The significance of not showing the therapist was to highlight Sterling Brown’s acting, and to focus on Randall having to do the hard work.

@adlgel @abasket I did read today they wanted therapy to focus on Sterling’s acting. Also, DH and I recognized Pamela’s distinctive voice. Last year I found her amazing FX show Better Things. The show started in 2016, Pamela acts, writes and directs and it mirrors her real life, acting since a child, 3 daughters, divorced. I went to the library and watched from the beginning over a few weeks. A lot of her acting is voice work but a couple of 1990s movies I saw.

Got it. I need no convincing of Sterling’s fabulous talent! Just love him. (he’s also a fun person to follow on social media)

That darn coffee pot dripping. I thought it was a heat radiator. Would have drove me batty too!

Yes…so beautifully done. In other episodes Kevin seems annoyed so often. But in this episode, you could just see all the love he has for his mom. It was so clear on his face and in his eyes. Loved it.

Great episode. It’s fun that Jack died early in the series yet still is a part of the back/forth story lines. Of course it is more fun to watch Jack when he is sober and thoughtful, not the tough periods of the marriage.
