This Is Us. Anyone watching?

Madison told Kevin she was having twins.

We had a pair of 12-year-old fraternal twins staying with us a few weeks ago. The girl would not have looked out of place in a freshman class in college; the boy would not have looked out of place in 4th grade.

Great episode! I too am curious about the ObGyn, daughter and horse thing. Awful lot of time to spend on two characters if all it was meant for was for him to use her quote on Madison. We shall see down the road if thereā€™s more to it.

Kevinā€™s words were incredibly hurtful, but Randall has been acting like an ass so I can see how he lashed out at him.

I feel like they also spent a fair amount of time on the couple who ended up gifting Rebecca and Jack with the faulty crockpot so my gut feel is that the doctor and his daughter were just there to provide the advice to Madison that prompted her to give Kevin a chance to step up.

I am not liking Randall much this season either and feel like the writers are pushing him too hard in the other direction in ways that are not true to the character just to create conflict.

I think theyā€™ve done a great job showing why he needs to feel in control all the time and how that is intertwined with everything he experienced as a child and the expectations placed on him, as well as his anxiety. But his forcing Rebecca to participate in the trial when it is clearly not what she wants and the horrible things he says to Kevin just donā€™t seem true to the character.

Kevin has really stepped up. He got sober, he helped Nicky, he had been there for his momā€¦ Randall has not really given him credit for that.

WaPo had a good summary today and that reminded me to go read the Vulture summary. Arghh!!! I could only access the first two paragraphs. Now getting a message that to access the whole article, I need to subscribe to New York magazine. I guess the gravy train is over.

Two more seasons are due to us.

Ugh. So much to think about and discuss!

Iā€™m still team Randall! The brawl between him and Kevin was unpleasant for sure - on both sides - but I still get why Randall did not give up on Rebecca giving St Louis a try.

I actually thought the comments during the brawl were odd - like just not really relating to the situation.

I never heard Madison say twins. But I believe you all! The doc and horse/daughter scene definitely must mean something. We havenā€™t seen a mom in that relationship so maybe he does hook up with Madison.

The two kids of Kevinā€™s at the end - honestly I thought they seemed young to be the kids from Madison. Iā€™m not convinced those are his kids with Madison.

Very odd that we donā€™t see Toby and Kate in the Jack and sister sceneā€¦and time wiseā€¦that is like 20+ years later - so WAY later than the ten years we are talking about between Rebecca before St. Louis and Rebecca on her death bed, right?

Haven;t we seen Toby in later scenes, but not Kate???

There were lots of weird scenes that didnā€™t offer any explanation. The army chick. Sophie. Malik and Deja outside the door - I mean, they were just going on a trip to a birthday party - why did they highlight the two of them. Weird.

You know Iā€™m a big fan of the showā€¦but Iā€™m left oddly unsatisfied at the end of this season.

Wild idea - Maybe the docā€™s daughter is the birth mother for Kate/Toby adopted daughter?

Newbie to the discussion here. I think the scenes with the horse was an analogy (did I use the right word there?) for Kevin - he was wild and acting out initially but the girl was able to ā€œsettle himā€ because she gave him a chance and recognized why. The Dr. then took this same approach to Madison and then advised her to give the father of the baby a chance and Kevin stepped up. I think he ends up with Sophie at the end though. Maybe something happens to Madison in childbirth and heā€™s left with twins to raise on his own. Maybe Rebecca tells him to make Lemonade with it. In the episode with Sophieā€™s Momā€™s death, he said something to her about seeing her again when someone else died. :frowning:

Could the ob for Madison be the son of the older doc that was the ob for Jack and Rebecca?

Love all the speculations! And the writers gave us lots to think on

Iā€™ve been trying to think of how Randall and Kevin could reconcile after what they said. I wonder if Nicky intervenes since he understands the price paid when brothers feud.

Iā€™m wondering about Cassidy being with Nicky, too. Maybe they are a May-December couple.

My husband mentioned how old they made Kevin and Randall look in the last scene. If Kevinā€™s kids shown were the oneā€™s Madison had, they would be less than a year younger than baby Jack. That would make Kevin and Randall closer to 50 when they are gathered around Rebeccaā€™s bed, correct?

Actually, are we sure that is Rebecca in the bed? I have trouble remembering what I saw, or what I read; now I wish I hadnā€™t deleted the episode so I could fast forward to parts I want to watch again.

What was the congratulatory text kevin received on his phone?

That was from Nicky, congratulating Kevin on his one-year anniversary of sobriety.

I thought it was 15 years in the future when Rebecca was in bed. I donā€™t recall why I think that. But it makes sense,

Kevin and Randall looked in their 50ā€™s, not 40ā€™s. So it doesnā€™t make sense the kids looked so young.

@abasket , the reason the fight seemed so discombobulated, is because resentments are rarely due to what is happening now. They are deep seeded from the past and typically come out when an opportunity of great anger arises. I see their fight as very true to life. A person can go decades with holding anger and resentment and smiling on the outside, and nobody knows what you are really feeling.

Yes, that is what I was trying to say about Kevinā€™s kids - they were too young to be the kids he had with Madison! I also agree that Kevin and Randall look older than just 10 years older.

At the bedside, Kevin takes her hand and says ā€œmomā€ - so I think that confirms it is Rebecca. So if it is more than 10 years - or even at 10 years? - isnā€™t that a pretty good number of years after being diagnosed? So maybe the treatment made a difference?

When the old doc told his story to Jack and Rebecca did he mention that a child he and his wife ended up having was a boy? I REALLY am intrigued by the fact that the ob doc could be his son!!

@conmama , I donā€™t disagree with that - but it was almost like ā€œformalā€ fighting - I sort of wanted them to push each other around! I also was worried that Kevin was going to have a heart attack the way he responded when he went in the front yard.

Oh, and yes, youā€™ve got to love Beth - both with Randall at home when they were setting the alarm and at Kateā€™s when she kept happening upon the conversations. And how she took Rebecca and said ā€œgirl, weā€™re OUT OF HERE!ā€ I love Beth to no end.

@abasket The OB mentions dancing to ā€œBlue Skiesā€ with his daughter at her wedding (but that doesnā€™t mean they couldnā€™t have had more than one child!).

Oh, yes thatā€™s correct!! ^^^
