It was kind of a really sad episode in a so many sad touching ways. My heart “tinged” a bunch of times!
A couple of things I don’t see mentioned here:
I may be way off base but I was super worried that when Randall was massaging Beth that he was going to find a lump (it was mentioned on this thread before about a possible cancer scare for her)- he didn’t but she did wince at one point. I’m so protective of her!
So I didn't get this thought until near the end of the show - but is the woman and daughter at the rec center that Randall brought Deja to see the same woman we saw with the small baby with William? It just dawned on me late in the show that her accent was the same!
I’m also so worried about Toby and his depression!
My sister announced to the entire group of cousins and relatives the S was to be part of the family tree because he was adopted. Thank goodness he was not present. When I told her that was hurtful and he was as important as birthD she argued true genealogy. I am quite sure that there is a way to designated that a person is on the tree as an adoption. But I understood that she does not see him in the same way as a birth child. She is good to any child so at least that was not the issue. Kate’s comments are something this sister would say without realizing the impact to others.
You also start to see where the tide turned from Rebecca being the young fun wife of Jack and mom to the kids to the somewhat flat affect wife of Miguel. The depression after Jack’s death perhaps doesn’t really leave her and/or she just isn’t the same person without Jack.
One more thing—I just read a recap that said the title of the episode is “Katie Girls”. Where/when do you see the title of an episode if you watch the show when it airs? I only ever see episode titles if I watch something later on Netflix. I didn’t even know tv episodes had titles until fairly recently!
Why do you think Rebecca chose Jack over that other guy? Jack mentioned having a family, but I thought Rebecca was opposed to that in the beginning. I would have expected her to ditch both of them and move to LA.
I was wondering that too. But how long do you have to live in an area to run for city council? Beth lost her job so she doesn’t need to commute to NYC (am i making up that she worked in NYC?). They can move into the housing they bought in Philly and he can run for city council. He can be true to the part of him that’s William and the part that’s Jack.
Rebecca watched with concern as her mother behaved as a stereotypic for the time housewife, complete with a housekeeping magazine and kitchen duty while her father lounged in the living room after dinner.
Rebecca’s eyes lit up as Jack cleared the table at his mother’s friend’s house and they shared dishwashing duties. The other guy expressed dismay at her hopes for recording in LA, urging her to choose NY, where he would join her. She seemed to want options. Even the other guy’s mother acknowledged how cumbersome she found the constraints of others in her life.
I know of a person living in NJ running for Congress in PA. He owns property in PA but as far as I know he and his family live in NJ. I think he plans on living full time (well as much as congresspeople do) in his district if elected.
We had a Congressman in Ohio who lived in DC during the week and Columbus on the weekends (his district did not include Columbus) where his wife had a job and his children lived. He had a home in his district but other than that, didn’t actually live there.
TBH, I think it’s more common than people think to live somewhere than where you are running for office. It’s not common but it does happen.
Famously I think Robert Kennedy and Hillary Clinton did not really live full time in New York while running for senate.
In some ways it’s getting too discombobulating with all the flash forwards and flash backwards and bringing in Randall’s dead father again talking to Beth. I didn’t like all the Kates together in the dream sequence either. A little of that is interesting, but too much is just confusing.
I like Tobey…he’ s histrionic when he needs to be and strong when he needs to be. He has feet of clay with his mood disorder, yet he’s larger than life in his support of Kate. He may be my fav now.
