Yeah Rebecca doesn’t seem like she’d be 72 or so. I think the triplets are 37 now which means Jack would have had them at 35 or so??
Just found a website with a timeline - Nicky was born in 1948 and drafted in 1969 - so yes he is 70; jack turned 36, and the kids were born, in 1980 - so he was born in 1944 - older than Nicky by 4 years- Kids are 38 now.
Guessing Nicky was born in 1950 or so. I would have thought he would be in his late 60’s.
Also, think Rebecca seems in her late 60’s. But this is all speculation.
Rebecca was born in 1950 (six years after Jack), so she is in her late 60’s in the present.
In the very first episode of the show two years ago, Jack was celebrating his 36th birthday when Rebecca went into labor with the triplets. So he and the kids share a birthday.
The triplets turned 37 in episode 1 and I think they have had another birthday since then, making them 38 now. If I remember correctly, the premise was that Jack was 37 when they were born. I guess that would have made him 75 if still alive.
I believe Nicky was such a screw up because he just wasn’t made for war, that screwed him up. I think that’s why Jack went to try to help him, and that’s why it’s hard for me to understand why Jack wouldn’t listen to him. I guess it realistically portrays that we all have our limits, even with those closest to us. Self preservation.
Now wait a minute. Nicky was utterly desperate for Jack to know what really happened on the boat, but instead of writing the explanation in a letter he just sent Jack a series of cryptic postcards? C’mon show.
An explanation of, “We were fishing with grenades, when the kid knocked one out of my hand” really wouldn’t cut it.
^^That whole situation was so eye opening of how jaded Nicky’s view was. How he first treated the little boy(?), teasing and taunting him with the chocolate - until the little guy gave it right back by grabbing his glasses.
And then how Nicky was sort of so child like on the boat - he had found a new friend - a young, young boy and he was taken with “a friend” right away. Clearly fishing was Nicky’s thing - and his favorite childhood activity. But so skewed that he would think it ok to take the child on the boat and that hand grenades would be an “ok” thing to do around a child - let alone at all!
Yes, and remember that the grenade was not releasing with pull. That was the snafu that paused the throwing of the grenade and then allowing time for the boy to try and grab it.
I couldn’t look at the screen during all that.
I also thought the math didn’t add up for Nicky to be 70 as Jack would have been what, like 75, had he lived (not sure how much older he was than Nicky or Rebecca).
Did anyone think that the boys could have been Jack’s? Not sure how long Jack was in 'Nam, but that was the first thing that occurred to me. It would explain why Jack never got over it.
^^^that seems like a stretch…I think it was more that he couldn’t believe his brother could be so angry and jaded that he would take it out on an innocent boy, not his own boy, but what the hey, what do I know?
I’m surprising myself how much I am starting to like Kevin. Kevin who was always seen as the leader (football player, socially ahead of the others with a gf),by his family but not by me; to me now is stepping up making decisions for the triplet sibs. Way to go Kev.
Just catching up after being away for two weeks. I always like this show. Yes, some episodes, like this last one, are better than others but I’m vested! And I had noticed this thread while I was traveling but didn’t check it as I didn’t want the spoilers. Fun read post watching.
I did think it was odd that Beth said she was supportive and then, when the girls had some issues and polls deemed it unlikely Randall could win that she “insisted” he quit. 1. I would have thought they wouldn’t consider themselves quitters and 2. nothing demanded immediate attention (like a health scare where people are needed at the hospital).
Loved how Randall and Beth handled Tess sharing she likes girls.
The boy that bought Toby’s Star Wars characters looked young. I thought Kate was going to find his mom and appeal to her. Kate’s character used to bug me but I’ve warmed up to her considerably.
And to nitpick: I agree it was weird how Kate said she couldn’t come to PA to try to find Nicky and then just showed up. No ride from the airport? What if no one was home when she showed up at Randall’s house? And I thought it was funny that the 3 were just going to leave when Nicky didn’t answer his door. Why would anyone just assume people are sitting around their homes waiting for unannounced guests?
Nicky’s story tore me up. This was a great episode.
I thought Kate was going to threaten to call the cops because there must’ve been underage drinking.
I’m surprised everyone had so much trouble with the time line. It was clear in the first episode that the triplets were born in August of 1980 on Jack’s 36th birthday and that the current aged triplets were 36, Jack’s age, when the show began in 2016.
The cast won a team SAG award last night! And seemed super pumped about it! Seemed Milo was missing from the evening though. Congrats to them!
It’s not on tonight! Bummer…supposedly the State of the Union (which is on hold) bumped them.
OH… so will they delay it again next week???
Yup. Next episode will air Feb. 12. I was so upset when I thought that my DVR didn’t record it.
Ugh. Bumped for the postponed State of the Union and then the new date. Three hours of Ellen’s Game of Games last night instead. >:P
