this might be a silly question but...

i start college in a week. I move in on Saturday and start classes on Monday. I am going to a small LAC. Are you supposed to have your books on the first day of class? Because my college has a Barnes and Nobles bookstore but i am short on cash and want to get them used over the internet or something. How does this work? I am the first to go to college in my family so I'm new to this.

Thanks in Advance

I heard that some students who don't have books right away can use the books in the library to complete assignments.

Look up your classes and look up your books. Then, go eBay for them.

Barnes and Nobel usually does NOT carry any textbooks.

Online they do.

Not in any of my classes. This year I'm going to wait longer 'cause I'm just going to buy them online. And in my library you can use the text there if need it be. The bookstore is so not screwing me over again. Most of the books I got last year, I didn't even use. Freak that.

If it's associated with the college, then it will carry them. At my school, that was where all the textbooks were sold.

Very few people I know buy their books before the first day.

Usually, you should go to class and see if the professor has made any changes to the list of required books, or if they will actually use any books at all.

where do you go Gold Shadow

You won't need them on the first day. The first day is taking attendance, introductions and reviewing the syllabus. If you do have a chance to do real work during the first class, almost no one will have the book and the professor will be expecting that. I ordered my books used from my school's bookstore website today because last semester's amazon/ebay book book-buying experience was a fustrating hassel that didn't save me much money at all, definately not enough to make me do it again. If you can order them through the school now, do it. Used books will be pulled for you before people come in looking for the books on Monday. For the books you will actually need to have, it's best to have them by the second or third class so you don't fall behind in reading. There's only a tiny chance that you would be able to order books online now and have them in a week, and the higher shipping fees would decrease your total savings over buying from the bookstore.
