This Student Scored a 19 on the ACT — Here's Where She Got Accepted

Congrats to her although I cannot fathom how it’s possible to be accepted to Bates with low standardized test scores. Got rejected by less selective schools even though I had a much higher SAT ( lower GPA though). Honestly I would go to Bates over Emerson any day just bc of the reputation even if they don’t have the exact major I want.

Good for her. My daughter had a lower SAT and ACT score than she wanted and had no problem finding schools which would accept her, even a few where she was a good bit below the 25th percentile. No test optional choices for her, as a homeschooler, so really digging into what schools were possibilities was where it was at.

@Higheredlearner, Bates is test optional so they never saw her standardized test scores.

Or could have titled this Student gets 950 on SAT, Here’s where she got in.

Or Student gets in to test optional school

@Sue22 That makes sense

Deleted.

She was accepted to all 4 schools to which she applied:

Bates College

SUNY-Albany

Emerson

University of Delaware

I have one who was also accepted to UDe with a similar a ACT score and grades. Also SUNY Buffalo’ some Catholic colleges, some Fairtest schools, Penn State, Pitt, UMD and Northeastern. Both NEU And UMD had first year/semester stipulations that did not allow him to start with the bulk of the students.

I believe his major, which was undersubscribed at the schools and well supported was a big factor.

Do you mind sharing the schools that would accept homeschoolers with lower test scores? I am homeschooled, and it seems like the average test scores for some of these schools is crazy high.

Yes definitely should be noted that the results change if it is test optional
