Here's a thought - how many of you freshmen girl have gotten lost on Kelton, Glenrock, or Ophir searching for Landfair for the parties on the wrong nights in the wrong shoes and with the wrong people? How many of you guys have walked the Walk of Shame within the last couple of days shamelessly and passed through the 'Rape Trail' without a trail of rape running down your bodies... or more appropriately, loins... (or what's left)? Just a thought.

are you willing to give advice on how to prevent that? since you brought it up and everything...

^ never mind !! :)

i haven't updated this recently... i guess it's not a legit "diary" haha.

basically i've been going to classes and discussions in the past couple days... i have an 8 AM discussion tomorrow :(

so far educ92f seems like a waste of time. during discussion today we had to make NAME TAGS with crayola markers and submit our first journal entry. i felt like an elementary school-er. they had donuts for us though :) :) (feel even more like a kid) haha.

hist2c is going well, prof ruiz is hilarious and always picks on people (in a good/funny way), keeps the audience awake and participating, and his accent makes his lecture even funnier (but you can still understand him). the first discussion session for this class is tomorrow and... the TA already emailed us telling us that we have to read two articles for tomorrow... and i'm not done reading yet :(

math3a is good, prof weinstein is a straightforward and clear, and the material is pretty much review for me. the TA, however, sucks!! he has 30 second pauses while teaching and just stands there saying "uhh" and scratching his head. one girl asked if we could get the answers to the even problems and he's like "uh... no... come during office hours"... hopefully i can change the TA

art&arch10 is pretty much my favorite class. we watch prof winter perform piano while volunteers from the class dance to it, and we watch youtube clips of stand-up comedy. this class is really interesting and hopefully the midterm won't kill my happy mood.

done. :)

Which discussion for 2c are in?

8 AM one... dis 1l
it was the only one left :(

9 AM We also had to read the last canto of Dante's Divine Comedy or something.

what??? all it said in the email was "Please bring copies of the Benyamin and Geertz articles to class so you can reference passages during our discussion."

...

Really?? our TA told us to search up Dante's Divine comedy... err DWAI i guess?

well mine is like 40 pages of reading total... and i just got some coffee to get me started :D way to start off the college year !

Combination PLUG slash BUMP! Also, meeting time changed. ALSO, the website URL is chinacarebruins.org, not .com. :(

Come to the China Care Bruins info meeting on 10/8, 7-8 PM @ Moore 100.

Our two focal points are mentoring and fundraising:

We have an affiliation with a parent organization who have families that have adopted children from China. And we hang out with the adopted kids and do stuff with them like campus tours and arts and crafts, we celebrated Chinese New Year with them, we try to get them in touch w/ their heritage bc they're really curious about where they came from. You don't have to be Chinese or speak the language; a lot of them don't bc they're brought up in Caucasian families...

So we meet once a month for like three hours and we form this great bond where you practically become their big sister or brother and get like invited to the dinners and to see school performances and trade gifts at Christmas and all that jazz. Small time commitment - huge return!

And we also hold food sales and we're trying to plan a benefit concert to raise money to send back to the orphanages in China, to fund basic care, medical supplies, surgeries, for example to fix cleft palates to make kids better candidates for adoption...

Dear Diary,

My econ class was cancelled both times this week, not that i intended to go to it anyways, but lucky me

My management class is da shizzle...if only gardner would slow the hell down so i can take some notes. i mean, i got photographic memory, not auditory.

Astro 5 is a JOKE...'nuff said (watch i get the lowest grade in this class, LMAO)

PoliSci 40 is a joke too.

currently i am grooming myself for gym and i am going to sleep early (before 2am) tonight because i have work tomorrow morning at 7:45

life's better as an upperclassmen with some salt

hear hear hear

Dear CCers,

I am swamped with homework this weekend! I have two 10-page research papers that are coming up during the week of midterms of course, and some extra readings for honors. I'm taking an anthro GE right now and there's just a lot of rote memorization. It feels like high school biology all over again.

I'm pretty happy that I've got off the waitlists for all of my classes - I had to change them all earlier this week because I was bored to death with PoliSci classes on Congress and Presidency - it was like reading transcripts off of CSPAN. :(

I applied for a job on-campus and I'm waiting to hear back. I think I'm just to work a lot this year rather than getting involved in ECs. My expected graduation date is Summer 2009. Spring 2009 will be when I'll prepare for my GRE or LSAT or get an internship.

Dear Diary,

Today was cool. I fell asleep in Classic 42. I might also go to the 8 o clock discussion for 14C tmw morning, since I slept through the Monday 10 o clock and ditched Wednesday's lecture. Psych was boring, I read for Classic instead. Viet is hard. I talked a lot in Classic 42 discussion. We get to write about a film we'd write. Yay creative assignments. I'm excited.

I think I'm going to need help with 14C :(

MrPink,

I know! Vietnamese is so hard! I started going to Vietnamese school in 1st or 2nd grade and I wish I had continued it throughout elementary, middle, and high school. (Maybe then I wouldn't have to take foreign language classes at UCLA!) :( I think my mom is pretty disappointed but my Vietnamese is decent. At least you've had experience with tonal languages before starting Vietnamese. To make things even more difficult, my Vietnamese dialect is different from the Southern Vietnamese (i.e. just about every single Vietnamese person you'll meet) - so I have difficulties with 1) it being a tonal language, 2) having an American accent, and 3) having learned a different, minority dialect.

Oh and I'm sure DWM would appreciate helping you... perhaps you can help each other out! :)

Yours,

Blerg!

...I'm pretty desperate, but not that desperate.

dear diary,

today i skipped class, again. two lectures back to back in moore 100 and i didn't muster up enough energy to go. what a lame person i am. but then i went to band practice and that was tiring but it made me feel like i actually did something productive. then i went to get my course reader which i now need to actually read for tomorrow. also reheated leftovers. i prefer my rudimentary cooking to the dorms but i fear my diet may become just as repetitive and unhealthy... also, i enjoy having an apartment in general. the extra space, cheaper prices, windows that open, balcony, and having a living room is very nice. the traffic is rather loud, however, there are not mobs of freshmen invading my room getting ready for raids. but this is thursday night, which means that random drunk partygoers are wandering past my complex shouting incoherently. overall, my third year is already very different from my first two. but so far i like the changes, and assuming i don't keep skipping class, i think it will be a great year!

and qipao is the bestest roomie EVER!!! hugs and kisses ad nauseum
