Thoughts on how the NCAA National Championship affects this year’s yield and next year’s application

Numbers? Go Hoos!!!

1% to 3%

It’s exciting yes. Small tipping point though at most at the end of the day. Yes more athletes will look to the program. Everyone likes a winner. I watched the final since D18 is an applicant this year. Otherwise might not have. I’m sure the campus will be abuzz this week when we visit giving it a incomparable vibe.

Definately good fun…

Personally, I think it will cause an increase in next year’s applications, and probably not impact this year very much.

Both early and regular decision have heard already and my guess is that the “maybes” who haven’t responded to their offer yet are probably weighing financial offers, which won’t be impacted by a basketball win.

Based on this article I would expect an impact, the degree of which can be debated https://www.forbes.com/sites/cartercoudriet/2018/04/03/how-hoops-success-helps-colleges-get-applicants/#7df8e2a01354

Yes…

UVA is already a known… Smaller Schools clearly have a greater boost. Puts them on the map so to speak. Still it will move the needle. It did with Villanova although they also changed the way they did their applicant pool as far as ED EA and RD I believe so it’s hard to parse other things.

Does the school market the fact heavily and who is the targeted market… hard to figure that too.

It’s an indirect impact. Unless you choose to apply to play basketball or to go to the games…

Again a small school ( an unknown ) can benefit greatly.

For UVA it’s a positive all around because peeps go there to be surrounded by excitement and success. So definately a feel good thing and a plus to all applicants who seek a positive rounded environment in which to learn. So a Holistic Intangible that adds to ones discretion when parsing among options…
