My counselor suggested I apply to Pomona because they were of the few universities that had a neuroscience major.
I had never visited, but after looking around the website, it seemed pretty nice.
(although all school websites give you that impression lol)

Last week I called to schedule an interview and unfortunately was told I would be put on the waiting list. The lady on the phone was unprofessional when asking for my name and giving me information, even half laughing when clarifying the spelling.
She abrubtly hung up on me after telling me she couldn't hear too clearly and yelling "hello"

I was really shocked with her attitude as I believed admissions people wanted students to apply there, and honestly, I'm now reluctant to apply.

Are admissions people usually this rude?? I'm hoping Pomona students aren't that bad...

This lady is becoming the stuff of legend. She was discussed in another thread at some length. Someone needs to clue in the Pomona admissions team that they’ve got a serious issue…

This would be funny if it didn’t leave such a bad impression about a great college. Maybe they got the message. The last two times we called, we didn’t get her (sounded more like student workers, actually), and the folks who did answer were very patient and helpful.

That happened to my D as well. My D was also on hold for a long time when scheduling an interview. The rest of the school gives an excellent impression. It is shocking to see such a rude behavior from an admissions personel.

haha, i was the one who started the discussion on another thread about this lady. this has happened to me MULTIPLE times. it has gotten to the point where i hang up whenever i hear her voice. sometimes i am lucky and get other VERY nice and helpful men and women. i, personally, was lucky and got another woman when i called to schedule an interview. as i said on the other thread, just call after 1 and ask for an admissions officer if you have questions.

That’s so strange-I called and was greeted by a friendly and patient woman. She immediately put me through to an admissions officer who answered all of my questions and wished me luck. I must have been fortunate enough to speak with a different woman haha

Please don’t judge the college based on her. Luckily, once you’re at Pomona, you only have to deal with her if you’re hosting prospective students, and the other people here (students, professors, admissions officers, etc.) are very nice. If you want to talk to a student (although, again, it’ll only be one person) you could try calling Student Life. I think about half the time, students will answer the phone. Personally, I’ve found the vibe at Pomona to be very good!

I don’t know that she’s intentionally being rude so much as has a difficult time understanding you. I’m a student at Pomona who hosts prospective students, and the one or two times I’ve talked with her it was difficult for us to communicate clearly with each other. I’ve had no experiences like this elsewhere at Pomona, so I wouldn’t let it completely convince you against applying or attending here.
