Thoughts regarding the fake eMBA issue?

I am currently a WVU student; and I've heard a lot of strong opinions regarding this issue. The big ones are that the degrees from WVU have been devalued, the President should resign, the alumni are witholding their support, and professors are threating to leave.

I myself am livid at the fact the school awarded this false degree. And I would not be against a cleaning house of the administration (including the president). But I do not agree that the WVU has been devalued; that alumns should withold their support or that professors should leave. What are your thoughts?

What exactly happened? I always hear people saying that Garrison should resign. Btw I'm gunna be a freshmen next year.

The professors go on to say that WVU faculty are being subjected to ridicule at academic conferences over the ongoing scandal involving top WVU officials giving Gov. Joe Manchin's daughter, Heather Bresch, a degree she didn't earn.

"Worldwide notice has been taken of the scandal," the professors said.

Charleston Daily Mail - News - WVU law professors call for Garrison to resign

This issue should concern all current, future, and past students at WVU. Here's the summary of the issue from the paper that broke the story:

The story of a cover-up

Why? If WVU earns a reputation around the country due to this story as a degree mill, it makes a WVU diploma less valueable. Imagine recruiters on interviews wondering if WVU graduates really earned the degree or if phone calls or other factors allowed failing students to pass.

Additionally, I find it hard to belive that a legitimate Exec. MBA program would grant someone credit for work experience. EMBA students at most reputable programs average 10-15 years of work experience. By nature all are working full time in middle to senior management positions. If all are working then how could work experience replace 22 of the 48 credit hours?

Again if what Bresch claims are true or if she continues to stick by her story, it makes the WVU look like a degree mill. Pay tuition, if you can't finish, we'll give you a degree for work experience even if everyone else in the class is also working. We'll even make up grades for you.

Anyone associated with WVU should be very angry at your school.

I agree completely. An EMBA program is a well-known entity; students accepted to EMBA programs have many years of work experience and have management positions. EMBA programs don't have differential credit requirements depending on one's work experience. (I also thought that EMBA students were expected to start out as a cohort and finish as a cohort.)
